@memeticsisyphus I'm trying to imagine how far down the fart sniffing leftist technocratic rabbit hole you have to be to think, "we need to reorder society to maximize tax revenue generated per square foot, yeah, that will fix everything and surely have no undesirable 2nd order consequences!"

@fawfulfan The "urban core" doesn't generate a single thing. The people who go to work every day in the urban core do. Many of whom live in those green areas.

The urban core generates almost all of a typical U.S. city's tax revenue but most of it goes to fund roads, sewer lines, power lines et al in suburbs. If suburbs paid for themselves, rather than leaching off the city, I think a lot more people would be live and let live on this.

@Euthenos_ Rural people and suburbanites do not care one bit abt how city people choose to live. You do you. Urban collectivists make it their life’s mission to ensure everyone lives exactly like they do.

. First of all, this isn't the brag you think it is. Secondly, 11,500 doses of narcan have been dispensed from the Minneapolis machines. Put your guess below on how many separate individuals are responsible for receiving those doses.

@ben_at_scale @greg16676935420 And the price of never having to make contact with a Chipotle employee about your order is your order being tiny and/or just straight up wrong a significant percentage of the time.

@Maris_Blanch @MSHSL A juco pitching coach pulling the "Do you know who I am?" act on a parent volunteer at a HS baseball game is HOF-level douchebaggery. If your poverty school can't reimburse you for the $10 ticket that's a you problem.

It’s HS ⚾️ playoff time! If you’re working the ticket table and see someone walk up with a backpack, pen, stopwatch, & college logo, tell them to enjoy the game and keep working hard. Nobody asked you to pay to work the table, don’t ask us to pay to do our job. Carry on🫡@MSHSL

Ran across a post on here once by a guy who owned a fast food franchise, gave his employees a free meal every shift and had a couple zoomers working there who would regularly decline the free meal and order doordash from a different fast food joint to eat on their break. Some people are just determined to have fun staying poor at any cost.

@RBPundit It’s door dash bro. They all do it. It’s mind-boggling. Even more mind-boggling, they reduce “grabbing lunch” as some sort of right of living in an advanced society.

The fact that almond farming uses so much water is mental. Who the fuck is eating all of these almonds? Almonds occupy like 0.1% of the shelf space at the grocery store. If every almond on Earth vaporized right now would the median consumer even notice? I certainly wouldn't.
Nick Gillespie@nickgillespie

Over at Substack, @JoshEakle asks: "It's 2026, and I have yet to see an anti-almond farm protest."

This is turbo ironic when I think about my friends who are trying to raise their kids in a wALkAbLe neighborhood in Minneapolis. What can they actually, realistically walk to? A few bars and a shitty convenience store that's trying to be a NYC bodega but is most likely just a front for EBT/SNAP scamming. Need to go to Target? About a 17 minute drive. Costco? Well I'll be damned... 17 minutes again. The kids' school. Well the neighborhood public school is a warzone, so they need to open enroll in a different one that's... holy shit... a 17 minute drive away. All this for a higher overall cost of living plus having to constantly worry about their shit being vandalized and/or stolen. Suburban life mogs this so hard it's unreal.

17 minute drive to school (reading and math proficiency two SDs above the national mean, perennial state champions in several sports, clean and safe) 17 minute drive to Target (nothing is locked up, employees speak English) 17 minute drive to Costco (oh no, I need to use my car to get to the place I go to once a month for the express purpose of buying an entire carload of bulk goods, how will I ever recover from this) 117 minute drive to downtown GOOD

How to do your taxes: 1) Fire up some software (you have no idea what it's doing under the hood) and answer the questions it gives you to the best of your ability 2) Send it in and pray you didn't forget about that one 1099 or whatever or otherwise fuck it up
Jeremy Horpedahl 🥚📉@jmhorp

People will say "I’m glad I learned about parallelograms instead of how to do my taxes, it’s really come in handy this parallelogram season" and then also not be able to tell you anything about parallelograms

@NewsFromGoogle @SenRickScott @sundarpichai Crazy how none of these completely innocent, totally random, 100% coincidentally leading up to an important election "technical issues" have ever been to the benefit of a right of center candidate. What are the chances?

@SenRickScott @sundarpichai This issue has been fixed. Post-fire imagery is rolling out again now across Google Maps and Earth. For context: This technical issue was triggered by a recent, routine update to satellite imagery, which accidentally restored old imagery from before the fires.

The urbanists don't care about public transit as the transit means of the public and whose value is derived from its utility to the median member of that public. They care about public transit as an ideological fetish object whose value is, apparently, entirely intrinsic.

@HistoryBoomer A higher proportion of conservatives can accurately model the liberal mind because many of us are former liberals ourselves. "How did I think about this issue myself when I was 17?" is a pretty simple exercise.

I’m a liberal who can model that pro-life conservatives think abortion is murder. I agree that not all liberals can, but plenty of conservatives can’t model liberals for crap either. Lacking a theory of mind for opponents is common across the entire political spectrum.

@pitchprofiler This is a smooth brain take. Bailey Ober is making 5.2MM in his 2nd arbitration year and has 10 career WAR. The implication that he's on a poverty deal and/or not extremely good at what is does is absurd.

Bailey Ober is 6’9” with 7’2” of extension, and he used to at least reach 93-94 mph. He’s also been retained by the Twins through his lower-velocity phase because he’s incredibly cheap to employ. Kids, do not dream of becoming the next Bailey Ober unless you want to play DII.
Twins Gems@TwinsGems

Those kids dream of being the next Bailey Ober! Despite not being able to reach 90 MPH, he becomes the 27th pitcher in #MNTwins history to allow two or fewer hits in a complete game shutout.
