@graybrigade @ChasGlazer Way too low. Do you know who owns DRF? Google it and look at their current news/performance.

@ChasGlazer @graybrigade Interesting observation. What % of the total printed DRF forms do you think go unsold/trashed?

monmouth draws more people than probably 80% of tracks. bad take.
classhandicapper@Classhndicapper

@barshoelife If Monmouth dies it will be an example of terrible mismangement. Tracks near vacation spots can still draw good crowds if managed well. Monmouth is on the Jersey shore. If they haven't figured out how to use that to their advantage they are doing something very wrong.

@nightdan48 @alabamastakes The pair mutuel system wasn’t designed for groups to be able to get down bets at the last second that significantly change the odds and the rest of the players are unable to react/bet. Pari mutuel surely wasn’t designed with rebates in mind, CAW or otherwise.

@TRACKGABE The trainers that mentioned leaving, where did they say they are going to go? Which tracks?

I talk to a lot of trainers, and one issue keeps coming up: vets scratching horses that trainers say are perfectly sound.t’s costly, frustrating, and becoming a real industry problem. Some feel vets are overstepping and a few are even considering moving their horses because of it

@xmattmillerx So it’s a $2WP 10 race pick and pray with real money instead of mythical and no cap. What am I missing?

I think these tournaments are going to serve as a very helpful bridge for traditional $2WP mythical players to step into the live bankroll space. It's only half a step or so, but I think once taken, many will want to take the full step. It's such a better way of betting!

I try to stay optimistic in racing, both as an industry employee and horse owner, but the last 12 months are making it increasingly difficult. Today, our filly Unfaithful Rose was ordered scratched by the state stewards in Florida from a stake race at Tampa. Why? Because despite our trainer (who ran a horse in the Kentucky Derby last year) submitting all his paperwork for Florida licensing in the timeframe requested and despite them having all the documentation since Thursday, an employee in the racing state agency’s licensing office never put through the verification on his finger prints and thus because of their incompetence, the stewards scratched our filly. Meanwhile, Ethan West is the epitome of what you want in a horse trainer. A decade of training, not a single positive test, an honest and true horsemen. Our ownership group, deeply committed to aftercare, has routinely given away horses to families rather than drop them in for a cheap tag, is comprised of “little guys” trying to do the best we can for our horses. We shipped this filly from Kentucky to Florida and she was 3-1 on the morning line with a real chance in the race. Not to mention we have about 10 owners who traveled down to Florida for the race. I am absolutely flabbergasted and beyond discouraged by all of this. They should be ashamed of themselves for punishing us for their own incompetence. In an economic climate where small stables and owners are struggling to survive, this is how we are treated? Absolutely shameful. @TampaBayDownsFL @florida_horse @thoroughcrowd

@racetrackandy Is this a serious post ? U.S. pair-mutuel handle was higher 20 years ago than currently? When did the handle drivers at fan duel show up on the scene?

@racetrackandy @Trackfacts @EmilyOptixEQ It’s way more nuanced than creating an environment - what does that even mean? Why would 22-28 year olds with no prior exposure to horse racing want to devote the time and financial resources necessary to have any success? Tell me EXACTLY how you would do that.

5 Days ago the multi talented Emily made the post below. It is EXACTLY what many of us have been saying for years. The great part is that the solution is so simple. Focus on the Gambling part of the game and all that goes with it. Grow the game @EmilyOptixEQ "what if instead of just a couple spot play days of the year, horse racing focused around the strategy, the excitement, the work of playing the game everyday"

After @PatCummingsNTA and I watched Everett Dobson talk about “unity” and “collaboration” at the HBPA Conference, I said to Pat… you know what, let’s give this one last real shot. So we did. I had my attorneys send a letter to the @jockeyclub attorneys. Not complicated. Sit down. One room. One full day. Let’s put everything on the table and actually fix this sport. We gave them 48 hours to respond. It’s now been over a week. Crickets. 🦗 No response. No respect. No interest. Sadly, it’s exactly what I expected. Here’s what we offered… All the Stewards. Jim Gagliano. Me. Pat Cummings. Aron Wellman. And a real group of industry leaders across every part of the sport… track operators, trainers, aftercare, breeders, etc. One full day. No hiding. No excuses. No bullshit. If all that talk about “unity” meant anything…this is an automatic yes. But it’s not. Because they don’t want unity. They don’t want collaboration. They don’t want transparency. They want control. They want silence. They want the same broken system that’s been dragging this sport down for decades. So let me be crystal clear… This was it. The last good faith effort. They ignored it. Now we move forward…and we’re going on offense at a whole different level. If there’s any real media left in this sport that actually gives a damn, ask the @jockeyclub why they’re afraid to sit in a room and answer real questions from real people??? This has been going on for 3+ years. I’m not going anywhere. This fight is for all of us. What do you think???

ATTN. ALL HORSE RACING STAKEHOLDERS: It’s been nearly two weeks since I began publicly exposing The Jockey Club’s monopoly power, financial mismanagement, and cash hoarding. I’ve asked document-based questions. The kind answered with facts not PR. And the response has been absolute silence. Sources they refuse to address: • Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority 2024 Annual Financial Report — documents loans from The Jockey Club to HISA, including amounts later forgiven. • The Jockey Club & affiliated entities’ IRS Form 990s — show ~$40 MILLION in net assets, sitting idle. • Same 990s show minimal direct support to aftercare organizations and little relief for struggling racing jurisdictions. Aftercare needs a minimum of $20 million in infrastructural seed money. Meanwhile: • Aftercare groups are underfunded • Racetracks are collapsing • Southern California racing is on life support TJC did reach out to me privately. I told them : If you want credibility, answer publicly. On X. They chose silence. When an organization that controls the registry, the data, the technology, and the money won’t answer questions raised directly from their own filings, that’s not leadership that’s evasion. To them this isn’t about protecting racing. It’s about protecting a monopoly. The documents are public. The money is real. The silence is telling. Answer the questions or confirm exactly what you’re trying to hide. REPOST AND KEEP SPEAKING OUT, REFORM WILL COME

@xmattmillerx @joesantos_33 Surely on HHH pod there has been a horse coming off a long layoff and a panelist states (I’m paraphrasing) - that horse probably needs a race. Certain trainers are known to not have their horse fully cranked and want to race them in to shape. Same issue?

I get that and agree…… yet at the same time I think there has been a breach of the public trust if a trainer enters a horse he knows to be underprepared. I didn’t bet a dollar on the race. I saw things as you did. I’m just not sure it’s fair to expect everyone to see that. We need to be able to trust more that we are getting a best effort out of a horse and trainer.

I’d love to unpack the comments admitting that White Abarrio apparently didn’t have adequate preparation for this race. I’m sure all of the horse’s backers would have preferred to get that information prior to betting their money.
