Aliens have landed. They are peaceful and want to speak to one human to judge our entire species. Who do we send to represent Earth?

I live right next to the US embassy in London. They built an actual moat around it. Who builds a moat around their embassy? Countries that do bad things and expect retaliation. Or countries who do diplomacy as if we’re in the Middle Ages.

@EdwardJDavey But Ed, that light you think you’re shining doesn’t brighten anything of our day to day concerns, worries, strains & stresses. These serious times could use serious leaders, I’m sure you are, but you don’t particularly come across as such. I hope your new CoS helps.

@tubemapper I also do this on the DLR, I’m 48. I have capability, opportunity and training to helm yachts, fly aircraft and take pretty much anything on the road. Driving the DLR is best!

If anybody knows where I can *actually* buy a suit like this, let me know. (So I can incinerate it.)

@emilyhewertson It's appropriate if you're an admin assistant at a cleaning products distributor. No senior manager or woman taking meetings would dress like this. This is not the standard of dress we should expect from MPs and you'd say so if a male MP turned up like this.

I remember some decades ago that whenever and wherever in the world there was a conflict, warzone, terrorist atrocity or natural disaster, Kate Adie would appear, which somehow signalled the gravity or momentousness of the event. That mantle has truly passed to @LindseyHilsum.

Your inheritance shouldn’t determine if you sit in Parliament. The Hereditary Peers Bill, which was passed yesterday, will finally end the centuries-old hereditary principle in Parliament. Hereditary peers will no longer have the right to sit and vote in the House of Lords.
