Harvard this year ranks Taiwan 4th globally on its Atlas of Economic Complexity AEC The AEC tracks a country’s Economic Complexity Index, which considers the diversity & ubiquity of a country’s products. Basically how diverse& irreplaceable a country’s products are to the global economy. Taiwan ranks high because its high tech products are highly complex & cannot be easily replaced by another country. China, on the other hands, while an exporting powerhouse, ranks low because many countries can produce what it is selling globally. #Taiwan #economics #economy #exports

Can any of the Chinese-readers out there tell me what these characters mean? They're on the control yoke for a submarine helmsman.

最近工作時的背景音樂,有些歌會讓我想到Broken social scene,音樂類型也是一樣多元。查了一下竟然是英倫團,有點意外。 open.spotify.com/track/0p6WXZoq…

I spent over 100 hours compiling and analyzing over 5,000 videos of soldiers trying to escape UAV drones — pulling material from Telegram, Reddit, and other sources. Here is what i found out.

Fun bit of history: the Navy won the initial contract to launch the first US satellite, because the US didn’t like the optics of it going to a bunch of German immigrants, using an adapted V-2. The Navy’s rocket wasn’t ready in time to beat Sputnik, then blew up on the launchpad.

Vance is so good: "The American Space Program, the first program to put a human being on the moon, was built by American citizens. This idea that American citizens don't have the talent to do great things, that you have to import a foreign class of servants, I just reject that."

Students looking to study in the US: Better delete those negative posts and start praising the supreme leader if you don't want your visa denied. politico.com/news/2025/05/2…

Trump year-to-date cuts in scientific fields at the NSF Mathematical sciences: -72% Physics: -85% Chemistry: -57% Astronomy: -53% Biotech, energy, and health sciences: -9% Earth sciences: -80% I feel stupid for once talking about DEI threatening science.

It’s just not doing it. Which is insane — because the CCP leveraged TikTok to influence U.S. public opinion against tariffs on China. What’s coming next will be worse. Beijing will leverage it in our upcoming elections. They’ve done it in Europe. They’ll do it here.
Charles C. W. Cooke@charlescwcooke

Has the Trump administration released any sort of explanation—however cynical or tangential—for why it’s not enforcing the TikTok law that Congress passed and the Supreme Court upheld 9-0, or is it just . . . not doing it?

@cptwei Rubio with his current dual role is highly unusual and most likely by design (ie, not just because Mike Walz was fired). This be like Colin Powell (Sec of State) & Condoleezza Rice (national security advisor) rolled into one person during GWB administration
