@CamMagicMan @SaveSaints @woodward_curtis They are the Sea Pigeons. This Manly entity has only been around since 2003. Anything before that is historical account of the previous entities! South Sydney, Wests, St George, New Zealand, Canterbury and even the Sydney Roosters are in a similar position.

A prominent journalist of the 50s era named Jim Mathers started calling Manly the Seagulls because Manly wasn't winning much, the name stuck as a derisive nickname (suggesting they were scavengers rather than hunters). In the 1967 & 1968 editions of "Big League" (formerly Rugby League News) there was a weekly column dedicated to Manly titled "The Seagulls Speak." This was written by journalists, often muckrakers, not the club administration. The Manly-Warringah club has been the "Sea Eagles" in all their own official documentation since their first day in the competition, April 12, 1947. The "Seagulls" tag was essentially a 15-year media error & the club's founding documents from 1947 explicitly state they chose the Sea Eagle because it is the native bird of prey along the Sydney coastline. Ken Arthurson made it his mission to contact every newspaper & radio station in Sydney to "correct" their error, insisting that the club was the Sea Eagles with historic documentation. So when current fans still rely on or post that 1967 snip... they're literally looking at outdated rehashed media gossip already proven incorrect. The kind of stuff we cringe at today.

Am I right in saying that Ken Arthurson and Manly argued for years they were never the 'Seagulls'? This is from Big League in 1967. Two decades after they came into the comp...

@mrchrisnico MRC wanted to charge but HQ rejected it as in their view, Radley has an alibi as he is still on a club imposed stand down. Couldn't possibly be Victor under the head gear.

APRIL FOOL’S: Believe it or not, but match review committee didn’t charge Victor Radley for this because they thought it was accidental head contact😳😳

@Katzo60 The MRC appartently charged Victor Radley with a number of offences. However, Head Office said don't be silly. Radley couldn't have offended as he is still on a Club issued stand down for a couple more weeks.

@jezzablair @Thomo_Grant Who is he protecting being that far displaced from the player with the ball. Its a stupid rule, like many others that should be thrown out.

Why do you have to stand on mark. It’s insane. Surely it’s an advantage for the team with the ball if nobody is on the mark. It’s primary school stuff making players stand still on bark and having to even man the mark.

@Thomo_Grant All of the above. The AFL now has less credibility than WWE when it comes to result harvesting!

@Alsoutie @Quartermain10 But not another kick. No wonder the NRL give it to the AFL on getting a point for a behind. Put him on report but another certain goal. Again its result harvesting!

Maroons flyer Xavier Coates and emerging Titans enforcer Cooper Bai could be next on the hit-list of PNG players to sign huge tax-free deals with incoming expansion side, the Chiefs. It follows Alex Johnston's announcement as their first player signing and Jarome Luai joining him.

"The payments have been signed off by both governments. They won't pay a tax and they won't be taxed when they return to Australia. This is the number one drawcard for players" Michael Carayannis on the payment structure PNG signings can expect!

I’ve been involved in politics since 1983 including as an adviser to Bob Hawke and as a Labor Cabinet Minister. The Liberal Party trying to emulate One Nation is folly (and bad for our country). They are sacrificing their few remaining moderates. They cannot outdo One Nation.
