@CamMagicMan I always call them seagulls when in company of my silvertail mates. Call the ground Half Pines and refer to the asbestos hill for bonus points.

Clearing up any rehashed confusion about the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles naming history. This was absolutely put to bed in the late 1960's...

A prominent journalist of the 50s era named Jim Mathers started calling Manly the Seagulls because Manly wasn't winning much, the name stuck as a derisive nickname (suggesting they were scavengers rather than hunters). In the 1967 & 1968 editions of "Big League" (formerly Rugby League News) there was a weekly column dedicated to Manly titled "The Seagulls Speak." This was written by journalists, often muckrakers, not the club administration. The Manly-Warringah club has been the "Sea Eagles" in all their own official documentation since their first day in the competition, April 12, 1947. The "Seagulls" tag was essentially a 15-year media error & the club's founding documents from 1947 explicitly state they chose the Sea Eagle because it is the native bird of prey along the Sydney coastline. Ken Arthurson made it his mission to contact every newspaper & radio station in Sydney to "correct" their error, insisting that the club was the Sea Eagles with historic documentation. So when current fans still rely on or post that 1967 snip... they're literally looking at outdated rehashed media gossip already proven incorrect. The kind of stuff we cringe at today.

@AaronJacob90 @the_real_flea @mitcheels1 Yep... as stated. Immigration has been both "voluminous & swift" in that area, and other areas, and has directly affected that particular school... as but one example. It is interesting to see a schools culture be changed so completely in just 35 years.

@woodward_curtis @SaveSaints Every Manly history book I have ever read hasn’t mentioned Sea Gull. If a journalist got lazy or funny in 1967 or any other time I wouldn’t read too much into it.
Before the Sea Eagle was emblazed on their jersey in mid 50’s , it was simply MW on a badge on their chest.

This weekend at 4Pine's - the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles host the Brisbane Broncos for the "Anthony Seibold Cup". After the Penrith game, some are asking how strong are these Foz-Ball Sea Eagles?
Well, unlike the Broncos. Not even Seibold could take our club to the spoon!

I think its entirely possible we end up with a strange NRL Grand Final winner this year, and it will be because of all the soft tissue injuries from the way the game is right now, and its just going to be the "healthiest" team that wins the comp. #RugbyLeague #NRL
