@theficouple Opportunity cost has to be <=~7.5%. Otherwise that wouldn't pay off.

If someone offered you $1 million of cash or $6,000/mo for life? Take the $6,000/mo for life every time. Absolute no brainer.

@Anthony__Koch Blacks don't speak a different language nor take up an entire state from which they project their will on the rest of the country. Blacks are part of the American cultural fabric. Queebs are not part of the Canadian cultural fabric. They are a seperate entity.

The best analogy (IMO) for the Québecois as a “founding minority” if you will, are African Americans. African Americans are a minority in the United States, but they are not “one minority among others”. They are a part of the founding fabric of the nation.

@Charles_string_ The real solution would be to defund the CBC and repeal legislation directing its role. Then we wouldn't care about them wasting their money.

At this point I'm convinced JJ is just a complete moron that doesn't need attention. How do you supposedly make a 20yr career out of being a "journalist" but not understand why news organisations have foreign correspondents. Should they just tweet hot takes with no research?

@kinsellawarren Socialized medicine was a bad idea? Old age security? C’mon Warren … give them credit - what about universal daycare … these are all great ideas and pushed by the NDP.

I'm a typical Canadian centrist. I think the Liberals sometimes have a good ideas, I think the Conservatives sometimes have good ideas. I think the New Democrats always have really bad ideas. #cdnpoli

@TheNotoriousRDS I watched a movie on a plane that had a scene with fully visible female strippers. I was SHOCKED the airline would add such a movie to their catalogue. This isn't just a problem of personal devices.

I have an increasing disgust with the amount of sex and nudity easily available on films/shows that people watch on planes. Recently, I was napping on a plane and woke up. I glanced at the iPad screen of the man sitting next to me. He was watching some trash HBO show and there was a full screen shot of an erect male appendage. The last thing I ever want to see while flying. I also fly with our children sometimes. The problem is that people can now bring their iPads and laptops and watch their own shows. Airlines used to censor films and shows so stuff like that wouldn’t show up.

@DevinOlsenn Nah you shouldn't give right of way to jaywalkers. It should have just been aware of the human and slammed on the brakes if he jumped in front of the car. Otherwise should've kept driving.

This clip really showcases the difference between a human driver and Tesla FSD. FSD sees the (stupid) person crossing the road at night and slows down for them, meanwhile a human driver from the other direction nearly runs down the pedestrian. Should the person not be crossing there? Absolutely! But that’s beside the point - the reality is pedestrians do unpredictable things, and FSD is always watching for that to happen. Nice job robot 🤖🚗 Video Credit: u/Qwertygolol on Reddit

@sirenblep French has nothing to do with my Canadian culture, nor our instutions in the west. I don't want to conserve it. It's an annoyance every time I see it in places it clearly doesn't belong.

@crazyguy6968 It’s almost as if us Anglo’s have dropped the ball and that’s why you don’t see it anywhere! Hmmm—if only we could do something—oh, wait. We literally can. If you care about Canada or are conservative in any way you’d want to conserve our languages

In what world would Spanish be more useful in CANADA??? The entire damn country is plastered with French—and there easily could be Québécois or other Francophones visiting Anglo provinces who get lost and struggle with English. Imagine being able to HELP THEM. Just admit you don’t like our Francophones or history.
123@1Casual0bserver

@JJ_McCullough @Unmade333 I feel like it would be more useful for the majority of Canadians to learn Spanish instead of French but of course that statement is equivalent to hate-speech among the Quebecois.

My take that pisses everyone off: It is impossible to be a Canadian nationalist while denigrating the significance or relevance of the French language. The single greatest differentiator between Canada and the United States is the existence of Québec.

@kevlap017 English is lingua franca. French is not. Learning English is necessary to get around in the world. Learning French is a hobby.

One of my biggest annoyances about these accusations that "bilingualism requirements advantage francophones" is that there's this assumption that francophones are like innately knowledgeable about English, that only Anglos have to learn French. And it's so stupid.

Look up how and when Canada got there and how they budget and pay for it. Then ask how you would transition our system to their approach

@mcuban @DrDiGiorgio It really is a shame we don't have hundreds of examples of how Single-Payer, Universal healthcare works in countless first world countries on Earth. Canada is literally our neighbor.

Language is actually an interesting topic in aviation, because the global standard is that pilots just speak English. It would have been more inclusive to do otherwise, but they decided at the beginning that practicality and safety reigned supreme.
Tristin Hopper@TristinHopper

Air Canada has gone 43 (!) years without a fatal incident. My entire life up to this point has been lived in a country where the flag carrier never got a single person killed in a crash. The record is a totem to what serious people can accomplish. So naturally, Mark Carney is screaming at them to instead focus on nonsense.
