Feel like this could be an omen for what’s to come once the SSTs mature more out this way come August thru October . Lucky this should be really weak but the time it gets to Hawaii. If it was slightly more south it would be over warmer waters

If this system had another 24 hours over water it would likely be a Cat 4-5 super typhoon. Luckily it doesn’t have much more time will still be a major storm either way for places north of Hong Kong

🌊 A TALE OF TWO OCEANS: Pacific vs. Atlantic 🌊 We are seeing a classic split right now! Thanks to the massive El Niño this year, the Pacific is incredibly active while the Atlantic stays quiet. Here is the breakdown: 🌀 The Pacific (Highly Active): Expect an extremely busy hurricane season. There are two ongoing hurricanes this weekend! Hurricane Fausto is currently weakening, but could still impact the Hawaiian Islands by early next week. Note: Hawaii becomes much more prone to hurricane impacts during super strong El Niño years like we are seeing in 2026. ☀️ The Atlantic (Quiet): Things are staying very quiet post-Bertha. We expect the Atlantic to remain calm at least through August 5th. Stay tuned for more updates as Fausto gets closer to Hawaii! 🌺☔️

@creator00100 Well, there is a catch. Years like this dont feature alot of Gulf Activity. So cold caribbean or Gulf doesnt change much. The 80-100 ACE was never going to come from there. 😂

The Gulf is record cool! Wait. What? That’s not something I’ve said in years. But it’s true. At least for its “Ocean Heat Content” which includes not only surface water, but also depth. Since the onset of El Niño it’s been running below normal, and #Bertha put a nail in it! The record only goes back to 2013 though. See image in replies. H/T Brian McNoldy and UM for the great graphics! (The FL Gulf Beach water is still hot and there’s still a marine #heatwave in the Keys/ South #Florida.

@JonnyTheWX Only looks favorable for maybe the first two weeks of the month before getting more unfavorable. First two weeks of August aren’t usually all that conducive anyways especially this year. We shall see not expecting much until the peak season when we might see a couple storms

Later in the year as the waters warm more near Hawaii this could be bad but waters just not quite warm enough. Worth watching Fausto though could bring some rains/wind and waves to Hawaii in a few days

Today marks the 50th consecutive day of record-breaking global ocean temperatures. Sea surface temperatures in the key El Niño monitoring zone have risen faster since New Year's Day than in any year on record. We are on pace for the strongest El Niño on record (reliable records began in 1850). 2026 will more than likely be the second-warmest year on record globally, with 2027 virtually guaranteed to be the warmest year on record.
