This is pure populist nonsense… @ZackPolanski says “there are people who go to bed each night and earn more money in a night than this entire neighbourhood could earn in a year” … apparently we need to tax these people more to solve all of our problems at a national level. Assume a neighbourhood is 50 homes who make £30K in a year. He’s talking about someone who earns £1.5M per night passively - a run rate of over £500M per year. Assuming a magical rate of return of 10% this person would have £5Billion of assets. According to the Times Rich List, there are less than 20 people who fit this description. These people run massive companies (like Dyson, Ineos, or Warner Music) they each employ well over 10,000 people. They don’t go to sleep and earn money, they run massive companies and earn money. Do we really think we can run a country of 65M people by taxing a few dozen, highly mobile people more? Or is he just winding you up? He is an ex hypnotist and I think he’s trying to put our brains to sleep.
