Just because the case now involves a businessman, a retired judge, and a lawyer, the Supreme Court of India suddenly finds time to interfere in a matter already before the Sessions Court and High Court. In almost 99% of cases, ordinary litigants approaching the Supreme Court directly are asked: “Why did you come here directly?” But here, because certain media personalities sensationalised the matter, ran debates, created TRPs, and built public pressure, the judiciary too appears eager to step in and gain visibility from it. And mind it — more than 92,000 cases are already pending before the Supreme Court, while the Court is itself about to go into its 1.5 months vacation period on next some days. Is justice now based on legal principles and due process, or on media attention and public spectacle?

Karnataka: NEET aspirant Bhagyashree hangs self in Kalaburagi. She had passed the PUC exam with 92 per cent marks. Her father says- "There was no distress or problem in our family, and we were living happily. She had performed well (in NEET), everything was going well. Maybe she had some feelings in her mind about writing it (NEET) again. I do not blame anyone, I do not accuse anyone. We do not know her pain or suffering. What can I say?"
