@crk_le @charlotteukcity @Keir_Starmer The UK has approximately 32,150 schools, comprising roughly 29,700 state-funded schools (which educate over 90% of pupils) and about 2,450 private/independent schools. Its what you like, taxing (VAT) the rich to give to those not able to pay for education !!!

Watching the Gemma Collins/DfE video today as a SEND parent and I just… 😮‍💨 The forms. The waiting lists. The school calls. The battles. The sleepless nights. My child doesn’t need a PR moment. They need support that actually exists. We are exhausted. And we are still fighting.

Bridget Phillipson hits back at "big dose of snobbery" over social media meeting with Gemma Collins. Ther Education Secretary tells me on @bbc5live: “I do have to come back to this point that I think a lot of the comments that I've seen on social media and elsewhere…There is a big dose of snobbery here. You know, what's she got to offer? What does she have to contribute? I do have to question why people are saying that. And I do think it is snobby. And I think it's also, she can reach some of the audiences that we want to reach to make sure that they know what government is trying to do to work with them.” The Education Secretary said Gemma Collins could reach young people better than she could online: “People have you know said to me so many times you know you've got to raise the status of technical and vocation education, you've gotta meet people where they are, go to the audience and meet them where they, are I do that and then everybody says well Gemma Collins has got nothing to offer.” "She (Gemma Collins) was upfront about the fact that there were things at school that she found hard. Honestly, I thought the DfE would have dropped the TOWIE-style PR after the universal condemnation, but instead they doubled down. What makes it so problematic is how clearly out of touch it is with the reality on the ground. Schools are facing unprecedented levels of restructures and redundancies. There is a genuine crisis in education, driven by years of austerity and chronic underfunding, yet the DfE appears completely tone deaf to it. The SEND White Paper promised £400 million through the Inclusive Mainstream Schools Fund, but in practice that works out at roughly half a teaching assistant per primary school. That is nowhere near enough for a teacher managing a class of 31+ pupils, often without any TA support, to deliver genuine inclusion. And the reality is that much of this funding will simply be absorbed into plugging wider budget gaps elsewhere. At the same time, an unfunded pay award is projected to leave mainstream schools facing an £870 million shortfall. Instead of treating the profession and the public with respect - publishing the long-overdue STRB report and setting out a serious plan for sustainable school funding - we are getting staged Q&As with reality TV personalities. It is hard not to see that as a profound misreading of the mood across the education sector.

@OhLottie Phillipson's defense was about the voters GC could reach. Not parents, not teachers, not students. Voters. That's how much Bridget Phillipson cares about education.

Imagine if the Edu Secretary took stock of the overwhelmingly negative response from both parents and educators and said, “do you know what, I clearly read this wrong. I can see we need to rethink it.” That’s leadership. We’ve all been there. The doubling down is a real issue.

To come out with this a day after the SEND 'survey' , when thousands of parents are traumatised by the changes and what they mean for their children. When they feel utterly ignored makes a complete mockery of them. We need real voices in the debate not this bullshit.

It’s how tone deaf the messaging is when those with the most knowledge about education (teachers) are ignored in favor of reality TV celebs. Education has serious problems that need to be tackled seriously. I’ll admit to being hacked off.

The snobby attitude towards Gemma Collins and how she found maths difficult is so awful! I love the fact Gemma is talking openly about how hard she found maths as a kid - it brings so much awareness and hopefully help for other kids. This is great to see @bphillipsonMP

Much like the 118,000 SEND children who are now discriminated against via taxatiob by this government for accessing an education the state cant provide.
