BREAKING: The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has issued an injunction blocking enforcement of California’s new law that requires ICE agents to unmask and wear visible ID, arguing it violates the Supremacy Clause because it “attempts to directly regulate the United States in its performance of governmental functions.” California is enjoined from enforcing the law, pending appeal. Big win for the Trump administration & U.S. DOJ.

As we get closer to Hurricane Season, here is a refresher on the Saffir-Simpson WIND scale. Personally, it's long overdue for an upgrade. Wind is not the only hazard of a hurricane and other hazards can be far more destructive and damaging (i.e. Katrina surge, Harvey flooding, Florence flooding, etc) Dr. Jennifer Collins did a great research paper recently where she made a scale that factors in wind, rain, storm surge to name a few. She noted in the study that “people make better informed and more appropriate decisions" with "substantially better identification of the main hazard" in the new scale vs the current Saffir-Simpson wind scale. Why is Mike Huckabee, the sitting U.S. Ambassador to Israel, involving himself in a dispute between Israel and Poland? This is outrageous. Huckabee is in Israel to represent the interests of the United States, not the State of Israel. Any issues or concerns the United States may have with the response of Poland’s foreign minister should be handled through appropriate diplomatic channels at the State Department level. A sitting U.S. ambassador publicly cheering one foreign minister’s attack on another ally’s foreign minister, particularly from a NATO ally, would be unacceptable in most administrations. Poland is one of the most strategically important NATO allies today. It hosts both U.S. forces and a U.S. missile defense site, spends well above the 2% GDP defense threshold, and is the most important U.S. military partner on NATO’s eastern flank. Poland is also a frontline intelligence partner for the United States, especially when it comes to intelligence on Russia. A U.S. ambassador publicly applauding this kind of rhetoric with fire emojis in a bilateral dispute between Poland and Israel puts the United States in the position of appearing to take sides against a critical alliance partner. Reminder: Huckabee also invited Jonathan Pollard, the unrepentant convicted former U.S. government employee who spied for Israel and betrayed the United States, to meet with him at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
