much like right now, back then there was a lot of squabbling over murky disagreements. i sought out to get to the bottom of the disconnects, disambiguate fact from fiction, and ultimately concluded that scaling blockchains while preserving cheap verification is a worthwhile goal

You could make it a PoW protocol where the mining has to done and "signed" by a computer located on Mars, as verifiable by any tetrahedral array of antennas pointed towards the base station. This would make the currency tied to the local Kardashev scale (energetic GDP) of Mars.
