The embassy request was declined, and described as “shameless” by a Cuban government spokesman, the paper said. The Trump administration has been running a blockade that has prevented oil imports reaching Cuba for three months, with hospitals stopping surgeries and ordinary businesses of all kinds grinding to a halt—including the food industry. . CHINA STEPPING IN China has provided large amounts of food aid and is working with Cubans to set up major solar power and other renewable energy projects to enable farming and basic amenities to keep running. While those are long term plans, the Chinese have already provided 5,000 portable solar energy equipment sets which are being installed at health clinics and elderly-care facilities. . ILLEGAL BLOCKADE The US blockade, one of a long series of sanctions, is illegal under international law, but US allies in the EU, UK and Australia are choosing not to censure Trump for it—which he has taken as a green light to continue. The US has been tormenting Cuba for 65 years for its people’s choice of socialist and communist political leaders. . A PRIVILEGE IT DENIES TO THE CUBAN PEOPLE The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Relations said Trump’s actions showed the US was intent on “causing the greatest possible harm to the Cuban economy, the well-being of the people, and their standard of living. “The Ministry interprets as shameless the claim by the diplomatic mission to access a good [the fuel] as a privilege that it denies to the Cuban people.” The Trump administration takes the position that starving the people of fuel is actually the kinder option, since the US President has said that he could simply “take” the country "any time" he wants.
