While travel ball is expensive, I’m guessing the kid had a lot of fun, made friends, and learned valuable life lessons via sport. Also I’m guessing the parents enjoyed watching their son. Not everything needs to be viewed by comparing the ROI to a mutual fund.

@SeanTPendergast Exactly, my son has played travel ball for years, and he may not play beyond high school, and I am perfectly fine with spending the money. There are also numerous other benefits to travel ball. Dealing with adversity, being on a team, handling high pressure situations, etc.

Rockets got very lucky by Brooklyn not landing the #1 pick this year, which would have ruled Brooklyn's pick next year ineligible for #1. In fact, if Nets had been in the top 5 each of the past two seasons, that 2027 pick (HOU controls) would have been ineligible to be top 5.

Going to keep beating the drum: You will not win championships without good, cheap players, something the Astros are out of. Even if they could extend Alvarez, Peña, etc., it wouldn't be wise as there would be no path to putting a sufficient team around them.

Spoke with two sources close to this situation. Both corroborated. A shoving match ensued following the Sunday loss to South Alabama where Park was the final out. He emotionally threw his bat in frustration and it rubbed several people the wrong way. A shouting match and shoving match ensued between Park and another player. Temperatures got hot. This week, Park had a meeting with the coaches. His commitment to returning in 2027 was brought up. Neither party told the other side what they wanted to hear. Park reportedly was not officially kicked off the team, but he does not plan to return to the program. The transfer portal opens in a few weeks where he’ll likely be a target for SEC programs seeking their next shortstop. Park is a potential Day 1 pick in 2027.
