@lifelongsaint83 Good to hear a nice neutral, objective view. 🙄 For the record, I don’t care who wins. But Southampton- having had a really good season- deserved to be chucked out. I feel sorry for the players and the fans. The club, though? They got what they deserved
If Boro win they should be embarrassed, lost the game that counted (That wasn't spied on) and have had many more days to prepare for Hull than Hull have had to prepare for them! Don't deserve to be in the final and have an unfair advantage (not that they care about that)
Jimmy White:
“Alex Higgins was so out of position. This was my hero. He was steaming because I knew he was drinking large vodka and oranges, but he could play drunk.
There were shots in there which under pressure will never be repeated. The drunker he got, the calmer he got.”
thanks Gary.....you have just become the reason why I won't be posting anymore . I have never been nasty in any of my posts but have now had enough and for the record , I won't be going to hell , as I have no wish to meet you there.... good bye everybody...fun while it lasted
@declanganley I’m sorry, despite being very much a centrist, I have no time for the Darwinian US “prioritise the Rich, F*** the poor” attitude. It isn’t working for them, either- unless you’re one of the nearly 1000 billionaires that compose their “elite”. The US is a “theme park” for them
@cuilleog This thinking you display is not untypical in Europe and unless it changes, Europe will become a theme park for rich tourists from more advanced economies. Unless it’s invaded and taken over first because it can’t defend itself.
American govt generally trusts entrepreneurs and understands they are ‘creative disrupters’.
European govt generally distrusts entrepreneurs and sees them as ‘loose cannons’.
Europe needs to recalibrate its disposition to entrepreneurship, and risk in general.
@cuilleog@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ He was an excellent potter his eyes 👀 must have been perfect but that goes against everything you’re taught about the game outrageous pots shouldn’t be needed and certainly not most shots! He played the audience and loved the attention ! I never said he couldn’t play though
@Foxytwentyone@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ Again, fair enough. I still believe if he hadn’t been so self destructive he would’ve won at least 1 more world title in the 70s & another in the 80s. Which isn’t bad for a guy with bad technique. Maybe you’ll agree at least that he was the best “bad ball” potter of his era?
@cuilleog@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ It was at that time a dull working man’s club game with a very boring set of old man players who also weren’t that great and he lifted the sport from an audience perspective. All the top pros of the modern game have said exactly the same of Higgins snooker technique as been poor
@Foxytwentyone@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ Fair enough. Opinions are opinions. And we’re all entitled to them. Let’s just say he was what the game needed at the time, with all those Eddie Charlton/Doug Thorburn/ Ray Reardon types of players. I started watching in the late 70s. And it could be VERY dull.
@cuilleog@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ He was known for his outrageous flamboyant pots , but watch them back watch his technique he almost never gets position on the next ball even on simple pots that’s the basic principle of the game ! Great for the game at that time on TV but NOT a great player ! Sorry
@Foxytwentyone@ILoveSnooker_ I was never a good
Player. But I’ve WATCHED a lot of snooker. Higgins could beat anyone when he “turned it on”. He often didn’t, because of ill discipline, addictions, etc. But he COULD do it. And there are lots of players with good technique who CAN’T do that.
@cuilleog@ILoveSnooker_ I’m bemused how you can say the greatest waste of talent the game has ever seen ? What exactly are you basing that on ! If you could play the game to a competent level you would know exactly what I am referring to! What he did do was bring awareness to the game but that’s all
@Foxytwentyone@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ Ok, that may be a valid point. He did often pot balls from bad positions, because he was a great potter (but not a great positional player). But I seem to recall he was also capable of decent safety play, when necessary. And you need some technique for that, too
@cuilleog@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ The point I was making was he relied on his potting to make breaks as his overall standard of play was very poor as was his technique, he played in an era when he was less exposed his drinking wasn’t a the reason his technique was poor
@Foxytwentyone@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ Watch every great player from the 70s and 80s. Far, far fewer centuries. Tables are better and more consistent. Cues are better. Even the chalk is better. Very, very few modern players have lifestyles like Higgins, White, Steven’s, Werbenuik, etc. So it’s apples and oranges.
@cuilleog@jpstafford@ILoveSnooker_ I played him in an exhibition match , many many players are capable of century breaks that don’t play the game professionally, in his entire professional career he made less than 100 centuries that tells you his positional play was extremely poor ! Of course he could pot balls
@justdavenow89 Brexit hasn’t been implemented correctly too many remoaners trying to get deals instead of leaving it to those who could have got us the deals we should have had
