This chart illustrates the problem with weather-based renewables and why @Ed_Miliband is wrong to suggest we should base our energy policy around them Over the past week we barely generated half the potential we have installed - only 3% of the time was output above 16 GW (we have about 32 GW installed) However for a third of the time (32%) output was below 10% ie of the 32 GW installed we were actually generating less than 3.2 GW Clearly we relied on gas to fill in the gaps. There is no storage technology that could fill such a large hole for such an extended period Now consider the £billions we're spending on renewables. This chart shows just what a bad deal we're getting: expensive and insecure energy Time for a new plan (and a new Energy Secretary) @ClaireCoutinho @AndrewBowie_MP @griffitha @NJ_Timothy @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @cmackinlay @Iromg @AllisonPearson @afneil @EdConwaySky @MerrynSW @mattotele

@beneathbluster What exactly does "thinking people" mean? Define what you mean by a thinking person? I like to think of myself as a thinking person, and I think he's dreadful beyond belief.

So the Starmer bashing continues. Laura Kuenssberg writes and Chanel4 makes a documentary both about how unpopular Sir Keir is. They really are afraid because actually he is popular with most thinking people. #standwithKeir #TenYearKeir

@AlexTran677026 Well they're wrong. It isn't a patch on the first film. It's really just a lazy re-hash of the same formula because the original was so popular, Home Alone 2 was the same. Sly hadn't had a hit movie since the first one at the time.

@Stealth40k The thing with the SNES is that there's a relatively small pool of very popular games. You could easily guess most of the games that would show up in this list. But in reality, F-Zero as an obvious example, does not belong in it.

Unite has recently ramped up its opposition to @Ed_Miliband's insane refusal to maximise North Sea oil and gas production The union has cut its ££ contributions to @UKLabour and is even questioning its affiliation to the party saying “... Labour’s incompetent behaviour in Birmingham has come on the back of a failed economic strategy, that has left our industrial base fighting for its life. Oil and gas workers facing decimation, buy British defence promises broken, the public sector undervalued and the elderly and disabled under attack” When will @Keir_Starmer rein in his overbearing Energy Secretary and put a stop to his widely opposed policy on the North Sea? When will this cardboard Prime Minister realise that you can't claim to prioritise cutting the cost of living as Miliband did on @SkyNews yesterday while refusing to move an inch on the insanely expensive Net Zero and Clean Power 2030 plans? When will he realise that you can't claim to care about "working people" while accelerating the destruction of what remains of British industry? @ClaireCoutinho @griffitha @AndrewBowie_MP @NJ_Timothy linkedin.com/posts/unite-of…

@JoStevensLabour @DeborahMeaden @Ed_Miliband Yeah, and have you read the replies? What does that tell you about the country's confidence in his/your party's energy policies? Also, how can our grid rely on renewable energy alone when fossil fuels are required for resiliency?

Watch this. @Ed_Miliband is spot on. What we came into government to do; bring down energy bills, make the UK energy independent and create tens of thousands of jobs through investing in renewable energy infrastructure and supply chains was right and it’s even more important now
The Labour Party@UKLabour

The Labour Government is taking £150 off the cost of your energy bills. And we're taking the action needed to bring down bills for good by investing in homegrown energy so we don't remain at the mercy of international markets.

@ret_ward Where are solar panels and wind turbines manufactured? How are they shipped to us? Where do we import our coal from? Our wood for biomass? Our pursuit of net zero is increasing global emissions, not reducing them.

@unionjackspirit It's like saying if you break the law and are sentenced to prison, you have to pay the guilty party to actually go to jail because you can't force them. It's just absolutely nuts.

George so smugly thinks the UK national grid can run entirely on wind and solar. I'd love to hear him explain how no other country is pursuing net zero like we are, and yet we have the highest energy prices in the world, and they just keep going up. #bbcqt

@FloppyDeepDive @gamesyouloved Because trying to control it with a mouse when the collision detection against the canyon was borderline impossible to judge was like playing it blindfolded with your hands tied behind your back. I still loved it though!

Why was this SO hard in 1993? Star Wars Rebel Assault running on a real 486 DX2-66 with a real CRT and CD-ROM drive. Back then this felt like the future. Then Beggar’s Canyon humbled all of us. Be honest… did you ever beat it? Boom. @gamesyouloved #starwars #retrogaming

@JohnSlinger Energy bills are not down for the right reasons. You've simply shifted costs into income tax to make it artificially look like net zero is having a positive impact on bills, when the reverse is true. Everybody reading your tweet knows this, so I don't know why you even bother.
