@AlwaysByrnes @emeriticus I swear you people have a madlib approach to language, where you fill in blanks with pregen phrases and grievances.
English

@emeriticus Marathon is a game made by woke DEI hires and it shows by the numbers.
English

There's no "ideology" in Marathon. It does not at all comment on contemporary politics. It's a dark sci-fi shooter designed by a team that made a point of eschewing AI, unlike other studios. Right-wing grifters like this guy don't care about that and couldn't tell you what is "woke" about Marathon if you pressed them because there's nothing there. Every single one of these culture war losers is some species of creative failure who gave up trying to make things or never tried and now just traffics in the dumbest content imaginable. They can't even enjoy the things they claim are their hobbies and interests, but just sort of parasitically attach themselves to whine for attention.

Sony spent $3.6 billion on Bungie. Marathon peaks at 17k players after 2 months. Meanwhile, 7 devs in France are crushing it with Far Far West. Players want FUN, not ideology.

@nixonfan23 @IefttheBlastwav @Aelthemplaer And yet theologically they hold only the barest similarities. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_co…
Entirely new creation myth, a pantheon of lesser gods that one can ascend into, Jesus and Lucifer being siblings, the rejection of the Trinity.
English

@cunningman31 @IefttheBlastwav @Aelthemplaer You can argue about how mormonism is way different from christianity and youd be right but that doesn’t mean the stories aren’t literally meant to be referring to the same creation story and the same god
English

I love how archeologists will subtly hide the truth.

@nixonfan23 @IefttheBlastwav @Aelthemplaer Wait. Your saying that religion doesn't iterate on itself and slowly morph into district branches over time? Because Mormonism.
English

@IefttheBlastwav @Aelthemplaer I think this is an obviously stupid way to read that and no one would suggest thats how religion really works in good faith

@dawn__oh @WinslowDumaine They operated on an income based sliding scale. But yeah. They saw themselves as a pressure relief valve for a crushing political and economic system.

@bowtiedmeathead Thanks. I say this because my goals are probably similar to theirs. Eat well enough, but don't avoid a cheeseburger. Build enough strength to keep your joints and bones healthy, but the aesthetics aren't that important. Try not to judge if you don't know. Right?

Started hitting the gym recently at 5am due to the change in my work schedule.
Two buddies in my neighborhood train together at the same time. Good guys.
They go at least 3x a week and look in decent shape. They don’t have beer bellies or look overweight but they also don’t look like they workout regularly.
If you saw them at the beach you wouldn’t see any muscle definition with their shirt off
Been watching them train and it all makes sense.
Zero intensity. The last rep of their set looks like the first rep.
Never once saw them do legs.
Only see them ever doing chest and arms.
They are in and out within 30 minutes.
They also eat whatever. Not junk all the time but they definitely don’t follow any diet or eating regimen.
While I give them credit for going to the gym (and I’m sure there is a social component to it for them) I can’t help but wonder why they would get up so early in the morning to sandbag workouts and go half way in…
Now I don’t expect everyone to be as hardcore about this lifestyle as myself but I don’t know about you…if I’m not seeing any results based on the sacrifices and effort I put in, I’m either not doing it or re-thinking my strategy.
Guess I just don’t get how some people are content with lackluster results or being mediocre at anything in life.
I’m either 100% in or 100% out.
There is no in between.

@vrody_jerome_ I will say that a well made seersucker, linen, or tropical wool suit should be very comfortable in a hot and humid environment.
But even as an atheist I agree that a little effort to look nice should be more than enough.
English

The only thing in this image that is true as Catholic tradition is that men should not wear hats in church, and that women are traditionally expected to have their hair covered.
The whole suit jacket and tie is only a local custom from England and Ireland that the irish brought with them.
And now tards expect me to wear a suit to Mass in july despite the fact that I live in a very hot part of the world.
Just wear what is comfortable and modest and reverend within reason. A polo shirt and slacks are acceptable when you live in Sevilla and you could literally fry an egg on the pavement outside of Mass.
These retarded charts have zero basis in tradition or church law, and are just based on the taste of some larpy gents.

Now, regarding proper attire at a Catholic Mass:
English

@honorablesaint Being allowed is different than encouraged. Whenever I enter a church, I remove my hat, and ensure I am dressed respectfully. I don't believe in god, but I do respect the importance that people's faith has. I will match the respect of the people there, as that's being neighborly.
English

Serious question for all Catholics. I want to understand this.
It is in my estimation that we should be able to wear whatever we want to mass. Men should be able to wear cut offs, hats, flip flops, bathing suits, etc. Women can wear yoga pants, booty shorts, sports bras, tank tops, etc.
If you don't think we should allow that, why? Do you think Christ would care that Clarissa shows up in booty shorts and a tank top? Heck we're just glad she's there for Christ. This is all acceptable attire in normal public. So why not mass?
So if this is the case, then why should we care about modesty? Christ doesn't. If he did we'd make sure there is an enforced dress code. Why is modesty such a big thing in Catholicism? Christ meets us where we are. Does a place of worship need outward reverence, or just spiritual and internal reverence?
I want a full logical layout of anyones argument as to why this photo should not be the norm in every mass. If you disagree with that premise then I expect a good logical argument that holds up against critique.
But it seems to me based on all of the comments to Rachel's post that most Catholics agree you can dress this way for mass on any given sunday.

@ColinSamul "my child couldn't take the subtle propaganda, so we now inundate her with more overt propaganda at home"
English

I hate to admit it, but he’s right.
I live in a small town. MAGA country. Our younger kids attended a k-8 Christian school. Our older kids went to the public school.
The school board members are all Christian and were mostly elected on a post 2020, anti-woke, anti-trans platform. That was very reassuring to learn.
But the teachers are all educated in the university system. My oldest daughter said it was like a funeral the day after the election in 2024. My youngest daughter couldn’t take the subtle propaganda anymore so we homeschool now.

It’s likely that the majority of public school teachers you leave your kids with all day agree with this guy

@esther_stan Relationships work when two people are looking at each other saying "you are out of my league", whatever that means to you both. The second part is both people feeling that twinge of insecurity, and deciding to become good enough to deserve that person.
English

I once texted a guy first. I mean I knew he liked me so I just made the first move . We talked for months. One day I stylishly told him that the talking stage was getting too long . He told me talking stage wasn’t his thing. Okay , what have we been doing?. He said he’d been accessing.
When he noticed I was silent and didn’t respond, he said in a sing song voice that I wanted him to leave all the other fine babes and cling to me. He even sighed and said he’d think about it. Never again!

@jankulveit Here is a simpler calculation:
If I pick blue and it wins, nothing happens.
If I pick blue and it loses, I'm spared existing with game theory freaks.
I pick red and it loses, nothing happens
I pick red and it wins, I now am stuck with the freaks AND a global population crisis
English

Funny little illustration of levels of understanding of game theory and rationality, or: why basic game theory is evil
1. Non-sociopaths going by intuition: blue sounds pro-social, blue
2. People who reason explicitly and use some naive game theory or naive rationality: red!
3. People who actually understand game theory: blue (if you want an explicit reason, because of trembling hand, Schelling points, theory of mind)
A simple explanation of "why 3." is ...imagine you are forced to play the game tens of thousand of times, at random points of your life from birth to death. What strategy you want to play?
"1." being in agreement with "3." often makes sense if you think about the origins of "1.".
Unfortunately there are few pieces of knowledge which in expectation makes you more dumb and more evil if you don't progress beyond the basic level; some of the more prominent I know about are basics of game theory, especially prisoners dilemma; basic econ; Elephant in the brain

why would anyone even press blue?!?
