@PierrePoilievre Oh great, let’s go back to our status quo, mediocre rail service between our most populated region. We need to be ambitious, turn your focus on pushing for resolution on homelessness, mental illness, and drug usage.

@punished_kres @Mrrichardv @ColinDMello Cool, and why are there costs so low? Throwing out numbers is cool but let’s understand why and do better? I know on our side of the pond we spend considerable amount in up front consulting. Is that due to lack of maturity for us to build transit?

LRT costs: “Current cost estimates set the project at $3 billion, and the initiative would see each level of government contribute one-third of the funding required for planning and construction of the transit line.” As we know from past experience - that cost is likely low. #onpoli
Colin D'Mello | Global News@ColinDMello

NEW: The Federal-Provincial-Toronto governments have agreed to cost share the Waterfront LRT which they’re calling an “east transit line” No costs right now. A news release says the line would serve 150,000 people, and would enable 75,000 housing unit units in the Portlands. #onpoli

@Mrrichardv @ColinDMello From what I’ve seen a lot of MTL REM is done so on vacant land across highways (particularly the west end). Toronto is not as easy. Not justifying the inflated cost vs Toronto but reality is with tight land space and uniqueness around portlands, it’s not apples to apples

@RM_Transit @g_meslin Thanks to you all for taking the time to pursue this. It’s very unfortunate our local politicians have been complicit in accepting mediocrity for so long. @MayorOliviaChow we expected more and unfortunately squat!

A bunch of us transit advocates have been saying for years that its nuts that no politician had realized that for a modest cost fixing the streetcars could be transformative for Transit in Toronto. So we started this group and wrote this plan as a *starting* point.
FastTrackTO@FastTrackTO

FastTrackTO is launching and releasing our 10 point plan to fix the Toronto Streetcar network. A symbol of the city that could be great with achievable, common sense and low cost changes. The plan if implemented would transform the city. fast-track.to (1/2)

I recognize there is substantial anger regarding Ford’s ad-hoc nonsense at Toronto’s waterfront. But it’s worth saying the space for Ford’s antics exists because of Toronto’s inability to put forward a real vision for the future of its own waterfront. This has made me angry for a long time. There is no city of Toronto’s size on earth with the kind of opportunity it has, and we’ve been wasting it. The reaction of the center and left cannot simply be “No”. Heck, even agencies like Waterfront Toronto can’t commit to building out the Portlands in less than 50 years. Shenzhen was built in half the time! Totally inadequate. So Ford is announcing a bunch of random ad-hoc ideas in a small vision for the future. What we really need is a vision and plan that ties together the following places. 1) Exhibition and Ontario Place 2) Toronto Island, including Billy Bishop 3) The Toronto Port Lands 4) East Harbour Transit Hub 5) Major Downtown Opportunities I think there would be tremendous civic interest in a compete vision that ties all of this together. - Commercial Centers - Cultural Attractions - Transit & Mobility - Housing and Urbanism So, as a matter of personal interest (and not just for my campaign), I would like to advance initial thinking for a bigger, alternative vision. If this is something of interest to you, please get in touch!

@JoshMatlow Josh, it has nothing to do with in-house or outsourced. It has to do with lack of management of the contract by the city. It's been almost 20 years; it should have been terminated 15 yrs ago, but City Council did not have guts to do it. City needs better contracts AND better mgt.

The Astral contract should be thrown in the garbage where it belongs. The bins break & overflow, the info (ad) signs clutter our sidewalks & they’re poorly maintained. This should come back in-house to provide better service, accountability & a cleaner, more beautiful Toronto.

Riding in a Waymo today was eye opening. The driving feel felt like stepping back in time to FSD 10 or 11. It's insane how much better Tesla Self-Driving feels. I don't remember the difference being that stark, I guess it just crept up on me.

@farzyness @garyblack00 @Teslarati The tesla X bubble club don’t realize the Elon likability ratio being extremely low. No one cares about starship if Elon keeps on meddling in politics and retweeting (at times) inflammatory and inaccurate facts. Folks outside the huddle (gen pop) have no clue what Tesla can do

CUSMA is incredibly important for Canadian workers and businesses. I don't care if it is politically fashionable to say it. Politicians need to stop playing games with Canadian jobs. Stop pretending China is a solution. Let's get serious. Let's get a deal done with the US.

@Tesla my plan was to purchase a S when I’d replace my Y. I like the option of occasional autonomous driving. Now with cancellation of human drive capable cars as you move into full autonomy will lead me to reluctantly depart the Tesla brand. Sigh….

I’m listening to Doug Ford speak to @_RESCON and he is ranting about the need to cut development charges as if he hasn’t been the premier for nearly 8 years. Just saying municipalities need to do it. Total abdication of responsibility. It’s time to cut Development Charges AND Land Transfer Taxes, which are a tax on mobility and therefore productivity. But that means the province needs to step up with stable funding, and lead municipalities to a housing system that actually works. “I’ll be like an 800 lb gorilla on this tax issue”. All I see is a chimp that can’t move. Someone needs to remind Doug Ford what his JOB IS. The premier deflects affably, but what people want now is ACCOUNTABILITY.
