@ThunderWolf08 Regarding "new" trains: San Joaquins is in the process of replacing bi-level California Cars with Siemens Venture cars. Some of those old California Cars will supposedly go to Capitol Corridors. Yes, some of those existing cars are in pretty poor shape.

Capitol corridor: The Capitol corridor runs between Sacramento & Oakland with some trains extending to San Jose. In the future frequencies will be increased to 20rts up from 15 & all trains will extend to San Jose. In order for this & Surfliner improvements CA needs new trains

@MonarchWolf @VTA Or just remove the bus turnouts altogether unless it's a stop with timed transfers or similar. Transit funds pay for turnouts, but they're put in to benefit motorists.

Bring back the “yield” triangle on buses that flash with the turn signal! Car drivers tend to cut bus drivers off when they need to merge back into traffic @VTA

@Weather_West I didn’t know SF uses those water sources. Why then does the SFPUC continue to limit accessibility for the Pilarcitos Lake Resevoir and surrounding areas? @Weather_West do you have a contact at SFPUC who would know?

Another tough reality: in urban firestorm of this magnitude, municipal water systems simply aren't designed to keep up. It *is* possible to build redundant emergency firefighting water system (SF has one, a legacy of 1906 quake & fire), but few places do. sfpuc.gov/about-us/our-s…

Regarding not having enough water to fight the SoCal fires; here is some water usage numbers from someone who knows a lot more about urban firefighting than I do.

I am working in a conference room where the drapes are controlled by a special app, instead of by little chains that I, an older guy, would be able to operate myself. Is the real purpose of the app-for-everything cult just to make older people more dependent on young people?

Also, two northbound trains have come and gone and still no southbound train. No alert from @VTA at the station or on the service alerts site. Anyone know what’s going on? Heard train bells from the north about 10 mins a do but it was a false alarm.

Seen at the north end of the light rail platform at Diridon. The opposite side was not similarly locked. You could only cross at the south end of the platform. Anyone know what’s up? UPDATE: I guess you can still get through. (A just watched someone do it.) I didn’t even try when I saw the chains. Still not a good look. 🙂

@ScottChoppin @jake_bittle Local news will cover stories behind the rebuilding process. Discussion often focuses on the challenges homeowners face with rebuilding to current code, and, in wildlands, to stronger fire safe standards.

@jake_bittle Excellent thread Jake. Good to hear specific stories about past fire events and the rebuilding process. Seems like the rebuilding process after the fire is lost in the news cycle, so we hear all about the event, but never hear about the rebuilding in any specific way

@eBikeChick @gsouthern_ @SanJoseDOT I think I'd still prefer to avoid this until that crosswalk across De La Cruz to the airport is ready. Otherwise you're stuck going down Central Expressway, or going down De La Cruz (with no bike lanes) for a while.

@gsouthern_ @SanJoseDOT Yeah, going over 101 on Trimble / De La Cruz is no picnic. They put a path in that goes underneath the ramps to bypass all of that mess but I don't know if they're usable yet. They had a ribbon cutting for the bypass but I don't know the actual status.

@cyclelicious @SanJoseDOT I'd be hesitant to try. De La Cruz has 4 lanes of northbound traffic at that point and 2 of them split off to 101. A cyclist would have to cross over the 2 lanes exiting to 101 and then ride in a lane with no shoulder going over 101.

@cyclelicious @SanJoseDOT It's open now, but the crosswalk is gone, the button to trigger the light doesn't work, and there's a no pedestrian sign. It's better than last time I checked in September, but there's still work to do.

@SanJoseDOT Glad to see the survey. I hope that something is done about the flooding under 101 and elsewhere on the trail. I've seen @cyclelicious single handedly digging drainage ditches in the past that have helped a lot.

Colorado and UP have reached an agreement on the Moffat tunnel lease which'll allow CDOT to run multiple trains Amtrak trains a day between Denver and Steamboat Springs/Craig possibly starting in 2026. Service will be upgraded over time google.com/amp/s/www.denv…

@ConorMagee29 @humantransit I've seen Happy Holidays messaging rotate w/ destination on Santa Clara County VTA light rail trains. The lines are color-coded blue & green, but my 60 year old eyes have difficulty differentiating between blue and green at a distance.

@humantransit Here in Sydney, the standard “NOT IN SERVICE” message on the desto has more regularly been replaced with messages like this one, or ads for new drivers. I have no issue when the bus isn’t in service, but when the bus is in service it should be displaying its route
