Today, I will talk about what I learned about @opentensor's Bittensor as a beginner. Bittensor is building a decentralized marketplace where miners act as students who train AI models, while validators act as professors who check and score (weights) their performance. These weights are used to determine rewards from network emissions — newly minted $TAO tokens. Think of Bittensor as a decentralized AI university where everyone is assigned a specific task. Failing to do so results in getting lower scores (weights), eventually leading to replacement by other miners who can achieve higher scores by providing better-quality outputs. Bittensor is working to revolutionize artificial intelligence, much like how Bitcoin serves as a decentralized alternative to fiat currency. It operates autonomously, maintained by a global network of participants (miners and validators) — just like the Bitcoin network. Bittensor is smartly following in the footsteps of Bitcoin, starting with a total supply of 21M tokens and utilizing blockchain as its core technology — a decentralized ledger where transactions are recorded transparently across thousands of nodes. Like how a university teaches different subjects to help students gain specialized skills, Bittensor is built around a few core functions that keep the entire network running. 1) Incentive Layer Think of the Incentive Layer as the administration office of the Bittensor ecosystem — responsible for deciding who gets rewards, how much they receive, and how those rewards are distributed across the network. 2) Subnets Think of Subnets as different schools within a single university, each competing to be the best. In Bittensor, Subnets act as incentivized marketplaces where miners compete with each other to generate high-quality outputs that are evaluated and verified by validators. Both miners and validators earn rewards from emissions in the form of $TAO, based on their weights (performance scores). 3) Blockchain Layer Think of the Blockchain Layer as the record room of the university, where every student’s performance, attendance, and rewards are permanently stored. In Bittensor, the Blockchain Layer works the same way — it’s the decentralized ledger that records all transactions, balances, and activities of miners, validators, and subnet creators. By staking $TAO, individuals can participate in Subnets and help secure the network — similar to how members of a university contribute to maintaining its credibility and structure.

The recent departure hit $TAO hard. Price dropped around 20% or roughly $900M in market cap disappeared. It looked like a major shake up but when you look a deeper the network performance remained stable. Emissions kept flowing without interruption. Validators continued doing their job. Subnet activity and on chain movement stayed steady. The core system kept running like nothing happened. Heavy sell pressure created favorable entry points and whales used that moment to accumulate subnets like @TargonCompute indicating a strategic and calculated approach. What looked like a collapse was really a stress test and Bittensor proved it can handle the pressure.

SN85 @vidaio_ is set to simplify how teams manage video at scale. If you have ever deal with processing videos one by one, adjusting formats, or managing storage you know how quickly it becomes time consuming. VidaioOS changes that completely. Instead of managing everything manual, your entire video library is managed and optimized by AI agents. The system reviews each video and automatically determines the best way to optimize it including compression, enhancement and format adjustments. You decide what you want and the system figures out how to get it done. It is built for teams that handle large volumes of video like media companies, learning platforms, marketing teams and archives. The goal is to spend less time on repetitive work getting more value from the content you already have. @Bitcast_network is leveraging its creator ecosystem to distribute content organically instead of relying on paid ads to tell stories through real content in a more authentic and engaging way. It is a great example of how things are evolving in the Bittensor ecosystem indirectly benefiting $TAO. Some teams build the tools while others make sure it gets discover and people use them. If your business relies heavily on video this deserves a closer look.

📢 VidaioOS is launching in May. @vidaio_’s AI video processing stack just got a major upgrade. With VidaioOS, enterprise clients can hand over entire video libraries and let the system do the heavy lifting. The agent analyses every video, then makes intelligent decisions on how to optimise each piece of content across the full library - no more manual file-by-file processing. The user defines the outcome. The agent determines the path. Built for enterprise teams managing video at scale. The launch will be amplified by Bitcast 🚀

When you swap $TAO for Alpha (Subnet) token your returns depend on how both perform relative to each other. > If $TAO appreciates more than Alpha your returns decrease. > If Alpha outperforms $TAO your returns increase. This happens because Alpha token is priced against TAO rather than stablecoins so your gains are always measured relative to TAO.

Conviction or Locked Stake concept introduces a time weighted governance model in Bittensor ecosystem favoring long term commitment over early participants. Subnet ownership now depends on the duration you are willing to lock your Alpha tokens. Locking Alpha tokens results in high initial power weight that decays linearly over time preventing sudden shifts in influence. Influence is recalculated every 30 days using a smoothed conviction score rewarding the user who has maintained the strongest commitment over time. Governance power in $TAO aligned subnets now comes with a cost. Increasing conviction requires locking Alpha tokens over time which limits how much capital can be freely moved creating a tradeoff between influence and liquidity. The benefits of this governance model are > It makes rug pulls harder since exiting takes time and most can see it coming. > It makes hostile takeovers slower and more expensive, so no one can gain control quickly. > Lets the community actively compete for influence. > It gives the community a way to support teams they believe in through delegation. Conviction ensures the people developing and running the subnet are the ones willing to stand behind it over time. While BIT 0011 is still evolving but the direction it's moving is clear. Ownership isn't a one time event but a continuous process to maintained control over the long term.

This is a meaningful upgrade for the Bittensor ecosystem. Earlier logging in and proving who you are (authentication) was complicated for people building apps. It makes the whole process easier without adding complexity. It works well for both quick command line and regular website logins that includes protection to keep things secure. Open source allows everyone to use same method instead of creating different solutions. It’s that kind of improvement people don’t usually notice but makes building things on $TAO much easier.

Introducing: bittensor-auth. One of the biggest barriers to Bittensor adoption is difficulty of use. Read about how we've fixed it (and open sourced the solution):

The Subnet Risk Index (SRI) makes evaluating more than 100 subnets easier without getting lost in the noise. It combines key signals such as capital flows, liquidity, token design, sustainability, and team strength into a single score out of 100, along with simple indicators Green (Healthy) Amber (Stressed/Needs attention) Red (High Risk) SRI treats subnets as competing AI startups. It highlights important information, where capital is moving, whether liquidity is real, if the model can sustain itself and how resilient the validator setup is. It doesn’t tell you what to choose but gives you a clearer picture of strengths and weaknesses so you can make that call yourself. As Bittensor matures $TAO held in wallets and staked on root will move toward fundamentally strong subnets over hype. @TAOInstitute_ helps you detect that shift.

An important development occurred in Bittensor ecosystem @BitGo has deepened its integration with @YumaGroup giving institutional investors ability to take custody, stake and trade both $TAO and Alpha tokens (Subnet tokens) on single platform. While it appears to be a backend upgrade but it directly addresses barrier to entries within the ecosystem. Historically buying alpha tokens involved multi wallet management, thin liquidity and higher execution and custody risk. Conditions that crypto native users are used to but acts as a barrier to entries for institutional capital. This finally brings institutions into the core of Bittensor. Subnets are no longer concepts anymore. They are active AI economies producing real output and their tokens are directly tied to it. This lowers barriers to entry for capital, enhances liquidity conditions and increases network participation. There are trade offs like increased institutional participation may results in concentrated allocation and slowly shift network dynamics. Bittensor is maturing from an experimental network into something more accessible to larger pools of capital.

You're absolutely right. The real challenge isn't accessing data—it's turning it into action. Most teams drown in dashboards while missing what matters. I focus on a different layer: automatically surfacing actionable insights from raw data sources, no SQL required. Fundamentally changes how teams make decisions.

If you think @TAOInstitute_ and Dune Analytics are competing then you are wrong. They operate at different layers of the same stack solving different problems. The foundation is Dune Analytics. It let's you pull the data, build your dashboards and figure out what matters but all the brainstorming is done by an individual. TAO Institute takes a different approach by answer questions like the risk associated with the subnets instead of giving you tools to analyse. The shift from a limited number of subnets has increased complexity resulting in signal overlapping, narrative competition and reduced clarity in decision making. While Dune provides the tools for analysis most users won't be able to do it consistently across subnets leading to information overload and inconsistent conclusions. TAO Institute focuses on interpretation gap and not the data gap. It consolidates emissions, liquidity, distribution, usage and governance into a unified scoring framework streamlining what would otherwise be a fragmented analytical process. The real bottleneck in crypto is no longer access to data but interpretation. TAO Institute provides structure while dune provides freedom. This creates two distinct advantages. Dune enables deep exploration, early signal detection and custom perspectives. TAO Institute enables speed, clear comparisons and a standardized framework. Adoption creates a loop where scores attract capital and capital improves scores. This leads to clear winners and underfunded losers. Alpha does not fade but moves towards those who think independently and recognize when signals break down. The most effective approach is to combine them rather than choose between them. Use TAO Institute to filter and structure the opportunity set then rely on Dune to validate, refine or challenge that view before allocating capital. Dune acts as the microscope and TAO Institute acts as the diagnosis. Your advantage comes from knowing when to trust and when to doubt.

At Paris Blockchain Week Bittensor co founder Jacob Steeves claimed that they are consistent outperforming other State Of The Art (SOTA) models. If this proves true in benchmarks and real world conditions. $TAO starts to look like a bet on technology that could outperform.

The partnership between Bitcast Network and SN98 @forevermoney_ai is making DeFi smarter and more efficient by focusing on creating real economic value over temporary incentives. The transition of liquidity from passive allocation to active optimization plays an important role. Miners are competing with each other which helps improve strategies over time. Capital is directed toward the best performing strategies ensuring it is always used in the most efficient way. Liquidity providers make money from real trades and fees rather than temporary rewards. This makes their returns more consistent and easier to rely on in the long run. Impermanent loss is a challenge that liquidity providers often face quietly eating into their returns. Adapting to market conditions allows liquidity providers to better manage risk and maintain more consistent performance. When there is enough liquidity trades work better. There is less slippage, prices are more accurate and everything feels smoother. As liquidity improves more people start trading generating more fees and benefiting liquidity providers. It also improves how different markets work together. When prices stay aligned across platforms there are fewer opportunities for arbitrage. This means less value is extracted by outside traders and more rewards stay with the people providing liquidity. The key is alignment where rewards are based on performance rather than participation. Strategies that generate consistent value earn rewards while those that do not get replaced. This keeps the entire system focused on what truly matters. As this system learns from more data over time growing competition helps drive even better results. It keeps learning and evolving, which makes it difficult to replicate. This is a step toward the next phase of DeFi where systems are more intelligent and value comes from actual usage and not incentives. Over time that could make the space more stable and sustainable.
Bitcast | SN93@Bitcast_network

Bitcast has teamed up with SN98 @forevermoney_ai. Their miners compete to find the best LP ranges for xSN93, helping LPs earn more while keeping impermanent loss in check. Liquidity ends up where it actually matters, so traders get better fills and less slippage. They’re also keeping pricing aligned between Finney and Base pools.

Venice Uncensored 1.2 is live and the output gives us a glimpse of where AI is heading. It is built on Dolphin Mistral 24B Venice Edition and the improvements are actually pretty noticeable. You can now work with both images and text on a 4x larger 128k context window that can handle and remember huge amounts of information in one go and noticeably better tool use for more agent like tasks. What really stands out is the design. It prioritizes user control reduces refusal rates, relaxes filtering layers and emphasizes privacy with a no logging approach. They claim near full compliance on some refusal tests though that is very different from how mainstream models are built. The fact that it was trained on Bittensor Subnet 4 @TargonCompute reflects decentralized compute is moving from experiment to reality. This points to an emerging divide in how AI systems are being built. One direction prioritizes alignment and strong moderation while the other emphasizes openness and greater user control. Curious to see how it performs in real use.

Bittensor’s rapid subnet growth is making capital allocation harder due to fragmented signals. @TAOInstitute_ introduces the Subnet Risk Index (SRI) a standardized way to evaluate subnets across rewards, security, decentralization and sustainability. It has the potential to emerge as a key signal guiding capital allocation in $TAO ecosystem.

Most people think decentralized cloud means storing data on random nodes. @hippius_subnet goes deeper. It uses deterministic storage that mapped data to nodes through a fixed function so retrieval doesn’t depends on global indexes or network wide searches. Distributed systems rarely break because of storage limits. They break when coordination becomes too complex. Indexes expand, metadata piles up and performance slows down. Hippius tackles this by swapping coordination overhead for computation. Data gets split and spread across nodes constantly verified in the background. If something breaks the network fixes it automatically. Payments and validation happen on chain so no central party is needed. The vision is to built AI infrastructure on $TAO where Hippius becomes a decentralized data layer for large scale AI systems. The system is still maturing with trade offs in performance, UX and adoption but the core idea is significant since it replaces data lookup with deterministic computation. At scale it can change how cloud infrastructure is designed.

The Bittensor ecosystem is growing quickly but the rise in subnets has made capital allocation harder due to fragmented information and unclear signals. @TAOInstitute_ aims to bring clarity by standardizing subnet evaluation. Subnet Risk Index or SRI evaluates subnets across dimensions such as reward distribution, security, decentralization and incentive sustainability turning scattered data into a consistent framework. General Tensor is the foundational partner along with Digital Currency Group reflects a move toward more institutional level infrastructure. TAO Institute is positioning itself as a unified intelligence layer for the ecosystem through integrating research, data and investment tools with potential growth through acquisitions. As the network grows platforms like this could play a crucial role in shaping capital flows and determining which subnets succeed in the $TAO ecosystem. Curious to observe how SRI scores evolve as the ecosystem matures

Most organizations are sitting on powerful infrastructure that remains under utilized. This is where the partnership between @manakoai Labs and @PwC_France along with Maghreb region makes sense. They are working together to turn existing camera systems into real time operational intelligence powered by @webuildscore a decentralized vision AI on Bittensor. This is not a laboratory experiment or conceptual demonstration. It is designed for real enterprise environments. The reality is that most physical operations are already being recorded every day in factories, warehouses, retail stores and infrastructure sites but very little of that data turns into useful outputs. Manako is trying to change that by building a system that understands what is happening live across existing camera networks and triggers actions based on situations instead of just sending alerts. It allows teams to use the system without investing in the development of advanced internal AI systems. PwC brings the scale, trust and global reach needed to help large organisations actually adopt and roll this out across different industries and regions. What this signals is a broader shift from passive monitoring to real time response and from fragmented data to operational intelligence. Physical AI is quickly moving from an idea into something enterprises will rely on in everyday operations.

Exploit Summit is a real turning point for decentralized AI. Building on Bittensor is not straightforward. Most subnet owners are learning in real time from designing incentives in a live environment where $TAO keeps evolving, experimenting with subnet mechanics and dealing with problems that only appear once things are actually running. There are guides and templates but they focus on getting started while the real challenge goes deeper. It is about creating incentive structures that are strong, resistant to exploitation and sustainable over time. This progress is still driven by trial, error and constant improvements. What makes Exploit Summit different is the space it creates for builders, researchers and investors who come together to share what is genuinely working and what is not. Deep conversations with people who have already gone through problems can save months of mistakes. It is one of the rare places where people actively shaping decentralized AI can learn directly from each other. If you are building around decentralized AI you should be participate in this conversation.
Exploit Summit@ExploitSummit

Building on Bittensor is hard. Doing it in isolation is even harder. Exploit puts you in a room with: • The subnet founders who've already solved your problems • The investors actually writing checks • The technical talent you're trying to hire Sept 28-29, Montréal. Two days that could save you six months.

People often think $TAO depends on $DOT but in reality they are more like parallel outcomes of a shared origin. Bittensor is built on substrate developed by Parity that offers a ready made framework that simplifies blockchain development. After this point both takes different approach to developed their ecosystem. Polkadot develop a system of interconnected blockchains known as parachains focused on shared security and cross chain interoperability. Bittensor uses a similar toolkit but applies it in different direction focusing on co ordinated intelligence rather than blockchain coordination. Subnets were developed to encourage isolated competitive environments where AI models are evaluated on task performance and rewards are dynamically assigned based on output quality metrics. Polkadot focuses on scaling blockspace through a multi chain architecture approach while Bittensor focuses on scaling machine intelligence across distributed models called subnets. In early days, Bittensor was more connected to the Polkadot ecosystem and even looked into parachain style designs but over time it shifted toward independence so it could move quickly and fully control its incentive structure. What sets them apart today is that they no longer depend on each other economically but their roots is their early development on Substrate.
