@Doc_consultant @MartinSLewis It’s not as simple as a straight comparison of rates due to the way a mortgage gets paid off. In the early years a far higher proportion of your monthly payment goes to repaying the interest than the capital, so you’re generally better off overpaying to reduce the headline amount

@MartinSLewis Simple answer is no. Put the extra money in a stocks and shares ISA tracker fund which will beat the interest on your mortgage

@PaulSkinner1 @MartinSLewis Yer man is suggesting that if you will get a duff interest rate on savings then overpay your mortgage and vice versa. What he’s left out is that this needs to be judged against the size of the mortgage, the interest rate on the mortgage and the monthly repayments.
