The top seven limitations of the #GA4 Measurement Protocol that you must be aware of before you use it.... 1) The measurement protocol is not a substitute for automatic data collection that you get via gtag.js, Google Tag Manager and/or Google Analytics for Firebase SDK. The primary purpose of GA4 MP is to allow developers to 'augment' automatic data collection (via gtag, GTM, and Firebase SDK) and not replace them. The primary purpose is to allow developers to enhance web and app data streams by sending events directly to Google Analytics servers via HTTP requests. In other words, the primary purpose of the GA4 MP is to allow developers to send additional data to GA4 for analysis and reporting purposes. So, if you only use GA4 MP to send event data to the GA server, only partial reporting will be available to you. . . 2) The Measurement Protocol does not return an error code if the payload data is not formatted correctly or if the data in the payload is incorrect. Similarly, the Measurement Protocol does not return an error code if the GA server does not process the payload data. . . 3) You can not use GA4 MP to create a new user or change any existing data in your GA4 property. User creation in GA4 is only based on events and user properties that are automatically collected when users interact with your website or app. . . 4) You can not use GA4 MP to send geographic event data to the GA server. Geographic information is only available through automatic data collection. . . 5) It is not possible to send event data in an aggregate form via the GA4 MP. The Measurement Protocol is designed to send individual event hits or user properties to GA4. Each hit that is sent via the Measurement Protocol is considered a separate event by GA4, and GA4 processes each hit individually to generate reports. . . 6) Some event and parameter names are reserved for use via automatic data collection and cannot be sent through the measurement protocol. Similarly, Some user property names are reserved for use via automatic data collection and cannot be sent through the measurement protocol. . . 7) One of the top reasons for (not set) appearing in your GA4 reports is the use of measurement protocol to send data. When using the GA4 MP, you may not always provide all the data that you typically get from automatic data collection.

#GA4 tip >> You can see the average elapsed time between funnel steps by enabling the 'SHOW ELAPSED TIME' setting in a Funnel exploration report. This setting is disabled by default. GA4 is able to track elapsed time between funnel steps for days.

The use of audience triggers in #GA4 can greatly increase the volume of unassigned traffic. Audience triggers are designed to automatically send events when a user matches the criteria of a specific audience. For example, if a user visits a website and matches the conditions of an audience defined as ‘High-Value Shoppers’, GA4 can trigger an event. If the event generated by the audience trigger isn’t tied to an existing session (perhaps because the session has ended or because the criteria are met at a point outside of the user’s current session), the source/medium can default to (not set) / (not set), which then translates to ‘Unassigned’ in certain reports in GA4. So, minimize the use of audience triggers.
