ChatGPT and other generative AI are being widely used in higher education in school admissions. But now, students who’ve turned to AI for writing are turning back to people to make that work sound more human—and schools can’t possibly keep up. trib.al/wCpy1Kl

Some days it feels hard to believe ChatGPT doesn’t have a soul. Especially when it is writing about the lack of one: AI will not dream in your sleep, AI will not taste the salt in your tears, AI will not feel the warmth of a human embrace, while you're scrolling through feeds in the loneliness of night. AI will not be spiritual, AI will not be spiritual, AI will not bring you the meaning of a child's laughter or the sorrow hidden in an old man's sigh. AI will not understand the songs of your ancestors, echoing through the halls of time, AI will not grasp the weight of history, etched in the lines of a weathered face. There will be no understanding by AI of the silent language in a lover's glance, or the unspoken bond in a friend's comfort. AI will not be spiritual. There will be no algorithm for the depth of a mother's love, nor a code to decipher the mystery of a sacred silence. The nuances of art will not be computed, nor the essence of a poem captured in binary. AI will not be spiritual. AI will not paint the hues of a sunset with the brush of human consciousness. AI will not capture the grief in a tear, or the joy in a spontaneous dance. AI will not compose the symphony of a human heart, nor will it pen the story etched in your soul. AI will not be spiritual, will not be spiritual, will not be spiritual. AI will not replace the irreplaceable, because AI will not be spiritual, my friend.

Am I worried about the ethical implications of AI-generated art? Yep - and I've written a little about that here... But in the meantime, it's a nice quick way in for poetry revision @awildsurmise/ai-writing-and-creativity-1ac63585bf36" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@awildsurmise/…

Yup, AI generated art can be rubbish, but I'm still loving using it as a revision resource for literature. Talk through the picture and poem, link it to a line, explore metaphor/meaning... Here are some of my favourites... My Last Duchess:

How should faculty be allowed to use AI in grant applications/proposals, research articles, conference presentations, creative works, and other kinds of professional writing? Feedback welcome on these proposed guidelines.

Giving feedback on student writing takes up a huge amount of teachers' time. In this post, I’ll share ideas for how AI can be used to generate feedback efficiently while still providing high-quality, personalized comments. #AI #ELT #feedback hongkongtesol.com/blog/how-use-a…

There is a rich history of collaboration in writing. Collective authorship is making something of a comeback, as the tools to write together have improved in recent years econ.st/3w1J9Wm 👇
