I spent an hour talking to the guy who designed the @Dell GB300 heat sync yesterday! Apparently, the parallel flow paths allow for an unprecedented level of pressure drop. When you're wattage-limited at the system level (to a 15A or 20A circuit), it uses less power to run two pumps at 10% capacity than one pump at 20%. So they've got folks who think and worry obsessively about such things! I got to play with the GB300 for an hour or two this morning. All the performance numbers are embargoed yet, so I can't tell you anything detailed... I did run my Tempest AI on it at several thousand FPS with 64 clients, and it made the heat sync gurgle like my belly after Dixie's BBQ.

I worked on that - or close. I did the 6.2 StepUp that packed the whole upgrade onto a single floppy disc using binary deltas... Microsoft floppies used DMF format, a special format that gave about 250K of extra space! A normal 3.5" high-density floppy held: 80 tracks 2 sides 18 sectors per track 512 bytes per sector Which gave: 1,474,560 bytes (“1.44 MB”) DMF changed the low-level layout to use: 21 sectors per track same 80 tracks same 2 sides same 512-byte sectors Result: 1,720,320 bytes about 17% more capacity
