Part 2 of my Leisure series now up via the ever-radiant @TheWarKitchen This piece in the series explores the importance of solitude; an art form lost to the sheened digital beacons constantly affixed to our appendages. Oh, but what a beautiful time for quietude to re-surfaceโ€ฆ

@BTungle25194 Indulged in my very first โ€œlegalโ€ alcoholic beverage on this very street in early โ€˜04. It was mid-morning and my choice was a Midori Splice. The gentleman serving me asked me โ€œwhat kind of hourโ€ it was to be consuming a Midori Splice with a wry smile. Sad to see these days lost.

Welcome to the Taurus New Moon. This is a moment to recover lost beauty. Look aroundโ€”no one actually WANTS this cultural rot. Taurus is the opposite of rot. It's fertility. It's the pleasure of wanting valuable things. Honor your desires. They are the path out of misery.

@ZeitvilleMedia The choice component is interesting, right now. Itโ€™s like making any kind of choice at all is better than the stagnation from ceasing to make one. Sure there may be errors, but thatโ€™s part of life & living it. People seem more afraid of experimentation, of โ€œfailure,โ€ than ever.

End of the runway pictures. 1972-2017. Shanghai, Tokyo, Vancouverโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve probably mentioned that technically Iโ€™m not an aviation enthusiast, but Iโ€™ve always been quite taken with airports and everything around them. I had the good fortune to travel a lot on assignment while based in Hong Kong and Shanghai but funnily enough I probably made more โ€œairportโ€ pictures while not working. While racing to get out of town on a news assignment it perhaps felt a bit frivolous to pause and photograph a waitress at the airport bar, or linger by a window with a tarmac view. So, it was mostly in the down times, or while otherwise travelling without any urgency, that I could spend unhurried time in or around a particular airport. Or, when I was younger and time was more or less infinite. 1. Shanghai, Hongqiao Airport. 1998. 2. Vancouver, 1972. 3. Hongqiao Airport, Shanghai, 1998. 4. Narita, Japan, 2017. One of the most intriguing reactions when one embarks on such a voyage is the incredulous nature of everyone you tell. โ€œHow can you do that?โ€ โ€œOh, I wish I could do something like that?โ€ You can, you should โ€” in fact, thereโ€™s nothing stopping you contrary to what youโ€™re told.

Two years ago today I left the US with just a few possessions crammed into this hiking backpack. Havenโ€™t been back or seen any family since. Figured everything out with folks I met here (some through Twitter), got married to a great Transylvanian girl. May be here for good now.

Many of you shouldnโ€™t fetishise or pine for the โ€œstabilityโ€ โ€œcertaintyโ€ that the boomer experienced. It would have been an enfeebling life, a curse, for most of you on here. Embrace the uncertainty of the current age - itโ€™s a gift. Only in the unknown is potential.

โ€œThe bar is an exercise in solitude. Above all else, it must be quiet, dark, very comfortable โ€” and, contrary to modern mores, no music of any kind, no matter how faint. In sum, there should be no more than a dozen tables and a clientele that doesnโ€™t like to talk.โ€ โ€” Luis Buรฑuel
