@no_dystopia @BareLeft The idea is current gas heating engineers would install heat pumps. Its more skilled than gas boilers and you can nake good money.

@BareLeft @dad_climate Yeah, £100k as a petroleum engineer versus £40k installing shit heat pumps in social housing...

@BareLeft Skills can be updated via online courses ( eg heat geek) and of course you could install heat pumps and service boilers at the same time.

@dad_climate Yeah, GMB are fucking weird. Where they're protecting jobs, I get it. But there's a shitload of transferrable skills working in gas and oil that would also apply to working in renewables and heat pump installation. I think their leadership are weird cranks on climate issues tbh.

To do this you need to know your stuff. Suggest a meet with people like Jan Rosenow- policy expert. Also Adam Chapman at heat geek. (Innovative HP engineer)

HOW 2 fight back- first step get unions on board. The GMB are anti heat pump. Win them round. Say landlords will be forced to fit them at their own cost ( or with reduced grant) Promise to increase the grant to 12k for owner occupiers. Be * for* something not just against
Zack Polanski@ZackPolanski

Labour have demonstrated over and over again that they are not up to the task of tackling the climate crisis. They're not up to the task of protecting our children and grandchildrens future. We must fight back. Join.greenparty.org.uk

@ZackPolanski The right have been making their case for this day in day out for months, largely ignored by the green left. Politically they outsmarted the green left.

And the thing is the right go on about heat pumps a lot.( trashing them) because they've been briefed by their fossil fuel backers how problematic they are for the gas industry!

1/3 Its kind of interesting that the green left say more electricity via renewables- Marxist left nuclear. But if you are going heat your home with it- a heat pump is generally required. No one ever mentions it. Polanski did a 40 min dive into the north sea (bold politics) ....
Aaron Bastani@AaronBastani

Britain should be powered by nuclear, wind and solar energy. It’s a chapter in my book. The electrification of most transport should already have happened. We also need to grasp importance of central technology of 21st C: lithium ion batteries. shop.novaramedia.com/products/falc?…

@AaronBastani Important to understand that electrification = efficiency. You don't need to replace all that 70 or 80 % remaining A heat pump converts 1 kWh of electricity to 4 kWh of heat.

China’s exporters will have yet another competitive advantage over global rivals, while also being in the amusing situation of offering cheap energy to Taiwan (who have so far said no). These people played chess for 30 years, while our political class farted about on connect 4.
camilo@AscendedYield

China's heavy electrification (30% of energy use vs ~20% in the US/Europe), diversified suppliers, fast renewables expansion and Gulf-bypassing routes mean only ~6% of its energy is exposed to Strait disruptions, leaving its exporters better positioned the longer any conflict lasts.

The Pasteur Institute was established in 1920, before my grandmother (who passed in 2023) was born. It was there before Reza Pahlavi’s grandfather started his fake dynasty. This place made vaccines! Modern America and Israel are at war with the Enlightenment & basic decency.
حسین کرمانپور Hossein.Kermanpour@HKermanpour

The aggression against Pasteur Institute of Iran—a century-old pillar of global health & member of International Pasteur Network—is a direct assault on international health security. This violates Geneva Conventions & IHL principles. We call on @WHO @ICRC & global health bodies to condemn this attack, assess damages & support reconstruction. #PasteurInstituteIran #HealthSecurity #GenevaConventions #InternationalLaw #GlobalHealth #WHO #ICRC #HumanitarianLaw #Iran #ReconstructHealth #PasteurNetwork

Just to underline my point @ZackPolanski. Tonight bold politics 40 mins- no mention of heat pumps- the thing that gets most homes off gas. GB news and Jenrick talk about them regularly in a negative sense.
ClimateDad@dad_climate

1/3 Green messaging on heating is a bit outdated- focus on insulation. Yes important but won't stop your gas bill going up in this type of crisis. A heat pump is what we need. Converts 1 kWh of electricity into 4 kWhof heat! @ZackPolanski

@AaronBastani Two additional facts that matter: 1 China is starting mass production of sodium batteries- idea for energy storage & even cheaper than lithium 2 We dont need to substitute all the primary energy capacity. Fossil fuel burning wastes 2/3 of the energy they hold via heat loss.

"The growth was led by a leap in solar capacity. which grew by 511 GW in 2025 to 2,392 GW, confirming its position as the world's largest renewable source. The figures are far greater than the 116 GW growth in fossil fuel power capacity". reuters.com/business/energ…

Put the grant up to 12k then stop the installation of gas boilers ASAP. 2nd homes /landlords must do it but no grant. Stop worrying about HPs being middle class- they work like a fridge. Its easy for gas engineers to retrain.
