Such a moving day today at elementary school graduation in Japan. おめでとうございます to all the kids around the country who made it 🎉

@dadsweb67 Same here, but fortunately, it was only a couple of months. They definitely had a unique start to their school lives eh? Can't believe that was 6 years ago. And yes, my hay fever suddenly got to my eyes, a few times 😅🥹

@ohazassu It does. It was the height of Covid when he started. He didn’t see his classmates faces for the first year or so and they weren’t allowed to speak at lunchtime. Good times! Get a bit misty eyed at the ceremony?

The most expensive book I’ve ever bought arrived. Yay! It’s very high tech and does have pictures of different iconic landscapes on every page, but still not convinced it should cost over 60,000 yen

@JohnnyBruce1970 26 snow days is pretty awesome. This last winter was the first snow days for us in 6 years of elementary school. Japan’s system kind of makes sense to me as Spring feels like everything is starting anew

@dadsweb67 I think it's because back in the old days the kids would work on the farms. But also, teachers get the summers off. I think they should take the winters off so school doesn't get canceled because of the weather. Last year I think there were 26 snow days

The boy just had his last day of elementary school today. That was a really excellent 6 years! Unfortunately I will no longer be able to get a day off of “volunteer leave” from work to go skiing with the kiddos any more😭

@JohnnyBruce1970 School year, financial year, new graduates entering the workforce-everything starts in April here. September seems like an unusual choice…

Without a miracle, it looks like my shop's journey is coming to an end. Spent a little too much time with an attorney and an accountant today, and after a few silver linings earlier in the week appeared, I'm feeling extra fucked now.

I thought you were younger. hahah About 40 for some reason. (maybe b/c didn't you say you moved to Japa in 2008) The driving is intimidating there - in a diff way than it is intimidating in the 3rd world! hahahaha I know what you mean though - making a cultural faux pas at a Nomikai is forgivable, on the road less so. :-) D.
