@AncientArgonaut @Render96VGTP that is how it was always done before AI. Real live sources collected by the devs themselfs or by the use of texture CDs. Japanese Sega Devs often visted real places for their work.

@Render96VGTP Nice find, I assumed it was hand crafted and related to the lore somehow. Nope, turns out it's lazier than AI. I'm not saying that's really a bad thing either, just I stare at this stuff giving too much credit, so I guess it works.

@PixelCNinja Gamecube, one of the best Conoles made. Also the last console that had a absolut minimum IPL/Game Launch Menu and had the focus only on games. With Wii /DS and the other makers consoles the age of "Service" started, something we still suffer greatly.

A grama é feita de duas camadas de texturas, ambas com resolução 32x32, mas em diferentes densidades de texel. E claro que tem vertex colors por cima. Assim, a famosa repetição de textura típica dos jogos da 5ª geração (e Pokémon atuais) fica imperceptível. Imagem do console N64:

Mais vertex colors: eu quero minhas árvores "billboard" com resolução 64x64 mas, no N64, isso significa reduzir a contagem de cores para 16, o que deixa a imagem um tanto sem vida. A pintura de vértices resolve deixando as cores mais vivas e variadas. Make games colorful again!

@kiwitalkz I did not stop fully but having time for a game is rare. And when I play, I stick to some older stuff mostly. Two Kids totally play a role in not having time to play. XD

One of the most fascinating things I have learned from interviewing game devs for over half a decade is the sheer volume of game devs that either rarely play games or don't play them at all outside of work. (one dev told me they haven't played a game in over 10 years, you'd be surprised who it is, given their body of work.) These seem to be the main reasons for this 1. They spend all day looking at a screen so they don't want to come home and look at a screen. 2. They don't want to be influenced by other games 3. Becoming a parent takes up all their time 4. Games have become monotonous homework for them 5. There are so many games that choosing one is too daunting now lol. It is a fascinating phenomenon

Mystic Riders is a horizontal-scrolling shoot 'em up arcade game developed and published by Irem. It was released in 1992 and runs on Irem M92 arcade hardware. I'm pretty sure this was inspired by Cotton.

People need to understand, that AI is a tool. It can be friendly & talks but it is a tool. The Industry should not replace human creativity with AI. It should use AI so that humans can focus on creativity instead of time consuming and boring tasks that always come again.

During the development of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Nintendo devs flew to the U.S. to meet Retro Studios artists and handed them pantone chips for DK's fur colour. The devs thought that was weird cause once you add lighting it won't look like that anyway lol.

@Todd_Garner Yes but you do not do the movies to please any Critics. Miyamoto too is worried about the bad Critics but the Mario movie was fun and makes tons of money because the people/fans like it. MK2 could do the same. Still need to see the movie.

I wanted to address a comment I made regarding some of the critical responses to our movie. I realize that, in my eagerness to defend the people who worked so hard on this film, I lost sight of the fact that our job is to create the best possible movie—not only for the fans, but for anyone coming to the cinema. Once that movie is out in the world, no one is above criticism. For that, I apologize.

@kiwitalkz Yes but you need a base color for the unlit model to go from. DKs color is not just A color. It is a specific color given by Nintendo. That is like a guideline to follow. A Pantone Chip makes that easier. I have similar stories from my time.
