@BertDalziel @Glinner Fails to act? I'm pretty sure responding to a claim, analysing it and rejecting it all class as actions.

I fear this might be my most controversial take ever, but I agreed to put it to a vote so here we are. Hoodies should only be worn by men young enough not to look silly carrying a skateboard.

@andrewdoyle_com I completely agree, but what's with these Tsars anyway? Haven't we had about 10 anti-drug Tsars? Just symbolic nonsense, surely

Teacher union google form won’t accept a mandatory submission unless I select my pronouns — options are the usual two plus they/them and an Other box. If you choose Other (which I’m leaning towards) you MUST put some words on the line. Any suggestions? What would you put?

If it is proven, without any doubt, that a grown man has raped, murdered and tortured young girls? Then it is my view that the monster in question should be put to death. I have no moral objections to that, whatsoever. It is Restore Britain policy to put this question to the British people in a legally binding referendum. When the guilt is undeniable, and the crime so very monstrous, should the individual in question receive the death penalty? My own personal view is yes. Absolutely. I understand the reservations that many hold, and that is exactly why a referendum is important. Restore Britain members and elected politicians will all be entirely free to campaign in that referendum however they choose. I would vote in favour and I would campaign in favour. If the British people vote yes, as I believe they will, then the savages will be put to death. Good. If you want the British people to have their say, then there is finally a political party with the courage to give you all that choice. Restore Britain.

@TheSimonEvans @WingsScotland Yes but the CPS would have to choose between murder/CP level and not. I use Letby as that's a heinous crime with little physical evidence, where a few ppl have doubts. CPS go for CP=it might not fly. Don't go for CP=what does that say to the jury and the parents? We're not 100%?

@dajulike @WingsScotland My understanding is that there is already a de facto system whereby the CPS will bring the charge they think the can prove even if they strongly suspect a more serious crime took place (though this usually involves the mens rea rather than “facts”).

Few would disagree with this sentiment. It is as others have said, both a satisfying conclusion and also a damning indictment of the British state, that we quietly, grimly nod when other prisoners do what we lack the resolve to do in the name of the Crown. Some times the “judicious fudge” has evolved to be the best solution to intractable problems and competing moral claims. But I would rather we condemned individuals like this to hang rather than expose them to rough justice and hope nature takes its course.

Ian Huntley, who murdered two 10-year-old girls in 2002, is now dead. Good riddance. One less evil and twisted person on earth. 👋🏽

@TheSimonEvans @WingsScotland I have, and I was already against CP tbf, but this cemented it. Certainty can't be measured objectively, surely? If, say, Letby got "guilty but not CP guilty" is she, what, 95% guilty? Does her sentence reflect this?

@dajulike @WingsScotland I haven’t, no, and I have wondered whether it would change my mind. I think there would have to be an even higher tier of certainty demanded.

@TheSimonEvans @YahooCastle Not really practical is it? Who makes these decisions about the extra tier being reached and the seriousness level metric? Take the emotion out, which I think we have to do when creating sustainable, practical legal frameworks, and there's no real sensible pathway to Capital P

@YahooCastle No, I don’t think so. And there is an argument that a jury would have been more likely to acquit. But I think it would have to come with an extra tier of certainty as well as seriousness of crime.

@WingsScotland @TheSimonEvans I have to agree. No capital punishment = bad. Capital punishment = slightly worse IMO. Have you ever been on a jury Simon? It's bad enough trying to hit "beyond reasonable doubt", with someone's life in your hands it would be awful. Would Letby have been convicted?
