One of the defining moments of the Champions League final came just before halftime when Kai Havertz found himself through on goal with a golden opportunity to put Arsenal 2-0 ahead.
The German forward had the space and the position to test the goalkeeper, but he was unable to get his shot away quickly enough. PSG captain Marquinhos showed great awareness and recovery speed to rush back and make a crucial block before Havertz could fully capitalize on the chance.
It was the kind of moment that highlights the fine margins at the highest level. In games of this magnitude, elite strikers often need that extra burst of pace and explosiveness to create the split-second advantage required to get a shot off before defenders can recover.
Had Arsenal converted that opportunity, the entire complexion of the final could have changed. A 2-0 lead before halftime would have put the Gunners in a commanding position and forced PSG to completely alter their approach to the second half.
Moments like these are part of the reason many Arsenal fans believe the club still needs a more direct, explosive striker who can consistently punish teams in transition. While Havertz brings intelligence, movement, work rate, and technical quality to the attack, there remains a debate about whether Arsenal need a faster, more ruthless finisher for occasions like this.
With the summer transfer window approaching, the striker discussion continues to dominate conversations among supporters. Despite strong links with Viktor Gyökeres, there is still uncertainty over Arsenal’s plans, and for now, Mikel Arteta appears unconvinced that the Swedish forward is the definitive solution to lead Arsenal’s attack going forward.

Arghh… I don’t like this lineup. The balance is off.
Mosquera and Hincapié as the fullback options against PSG’s high press means Arsenal will struggle to build from the back and could get pinned in their own half. Calafiori had to start.
Ødegaard instead of Eze means Arsenal are already one man short in attack, especially in a UCL final where being decisive in key moments is everything. Eze should have started.
Havertz is a valuable tactical player, but he lacks the decisiveness in crucial moments. Gyökeres should have started. His channel running would have been perfect for exploiting PSG’s biggest defensive weakness.
Even if you want Havertz to start, then Martinelli has to be the LW for balance. You need at least one runner to stretch the attack.
The entire front line consists of ball-to-feet players. There’s no runner to stretch PSG’s backline, which means Arsenal may dominate possession but struggle to penetrate.
