🧠Cerebral malaria causes coma and high mortality in children, but diagnosis isn’t always straightforward. In malaria-endemic regions, children can test positive for malaria parasites even without it being the cause of their illness making it difficult for doctors to tell whether malaria or other infections, such as bacteria or viruses, cause a coma. 🔬New research by @MwangiShaban et al. shows candidate biomarkers, Angiopoietin-like 4 and Inhibin-βE , combined with platelet counts, can help differentiate cerebral malaria from other causes of coma. A promising step toward faster diagnosis and better treatment. 📚Read the full article here👉 : shorturl.at/Ry33l

When you walk past a restaurant that sells deep fried chips, chicken and junk food around lunch time and it’s almost empty, is that a sign that people are thinking more about their health or they are broke?

After the withdrawal of USAID support, ART availability in parts of Kenya has declined, ARVs now out of stock in Mandera County. In a low incidence setting, this signals supply chain fragility and challenges in integrating HIV into routine health services. healthpolicy-watch.news/post-usaid-ken…

We may also wat to look at it as a proportion of the GDP. The graph might be very different.

Expect #ODA to Africa to shrink even further, in light of the Iran attack and it's multi-layered impact. What we have observed, though, is that one flow remains steady and predictable: our diaspora keeps sending more money when crisis hits. It now represents twice as much as aid.
