For me, the biggest sin is bringing the tactics of one game into the domain of the other. For instance, I don't mind scientific debate at all (on the contrary, it's a good thing) but I *despise* it when I see power being used to win scientific debate. We all know it happens 5/6

Hypothetically, imagine if paper reviewers and grant assessors had to read their comments to your face. Might stop some of the overt rudeness by some that hide behind their anonymity. Why do people think being rude and mean helps science and scientists?
