@johnrabe The Johncock - Mears race was a classic! I still occasionally watch the last 10 laps off YouTube. It made for great TV. The truth is though that virtually every race today comes down to the very end. It’s a great product. You’ll have to go soon. You won’t regret it!

@dan_eversole I remember Johncock beating Mears by less than a second in ‘82. Back then they didn’t show the race until late in the evening! It’s crazy to even imagine that. My dude almost got killed about ten times in races and is still kicking now at nearly 90.

I don’t watch much racing, but I always have a soft spot for the Indy 500, since I was a kid watching it on tape delay (that’s how they used to do it) on ABC. It means summer is truly here. And man, that was the greatest finish I’ve ever seen.

The Indy 500 purse numbers are out, and they are WAY up. — Felix Rosenqvist got $4.34 million for winning (up from $3.8 million for winner last year) — Total purse was $30.9 million (!), up from $20.2 million last year. — AVERAGE payout per IndyCar Series driver was $936k!

@jlcooke99 There is way too much time here spent on pining for the “good old days”. In reality, they were not always so good. What we have today at Indianapolis is a great product in front of a sell out crowd. 18 cars on the leap lap with 70 lead changes? THESE are the good old days!

I see a lot of #IndyCar critics here on X/Twitter. Yesterday's #Indy500 rocked from lap 1 to lap 200. Roger's purchase in 2019 saved Indy Car as we know it. Had Jim France bought it, the Indy 500 would probably just been another event on the NASCAR calendar by now. Thanks Roger

2025 Indy 500 - Josef Newgarden, who was starting P32, gave absolutely no shits about his race start FWIW, I don't blame him. With everyone likely having to check-up, he could just take his momentum back up to everyone out of T2 (assuming no one crashed) #INDYCAR #INDY500
