In 19th-century Southeast Asia, indigenous religious beliefs about soul and gender met Western colonial power — often through prostitution and exploitation. This history still shapes today’s global gender industry, argues Daniel Howard James. genspect.org/colonialism-th…

@daniel_h_james @genspect Thanks. Will def give it a read. I'm also planning to re-read Whitmont's 'Return of the Goddess', to see how notions of anima/animus might be involved.

Is Genderism an Esoteric Male Power Network? Daniel Howard James traces the hidden rituals, symbols, and loyalties that underpin modern gender ideology, from Mithraic cults and Freemasonry to today’s medical and academic institutions. A provocative essay on power, belief systems, and who really benefits. Read here: genspect.org/is-genderism-a…

@markmin73436714 @genspect My commentary on male power networks has nothing to do with the attention paid or not paid to women. Rather, my point is that secret societies organised for social change are not good complements to a functioning democracy in which everyone is supposed to have an equal voice.

@genspect Dip-shittery of the highest order. ANY time men pull MATRIS IMAGO off of women, to create all-male groups for male interests, two things will obviously be true. #1 It will look artificial and weird. #2 Women will be mad about it, as it means less attention for them.

@SelenaAnaRg @genspect That is the obvious response for someone who can't be bothered to read the article. If you have a serious objection to make, I'm all ears.

@angelamurphy99 @genspect The series I have written for Genspect is on this theme; links to earlier parts are at the top of the latest instalment. All comments are welcome.

@genspect This is really interesting. I have long thought there is an esoteric element to the rise of gender ideology.

The latest instalment of my series of articles for Genspect is out, in which I compare gender cults to Freemasonry and other male power networks down the ages. Is it unreasonable to use the term 'queermasonry' to refer to practices of groups which wield power behind the scenes?

@ShannonBDouglas @genspect @ConceptualJames It's hard to accept people who believe they are on par with Jesus as arguing in good faith, unless they are understood as suffering from a delusion and in need of our compassion. As the Last Poets put it, 'the white man's got a God complex'.

Voegelin, who Lindsay credits with his anti-Gnosticism influence, makes the explicit claims that Gnostic influence carried through political movements to the present. (For him, the mid-forties) His assertions were rooted in Catholic bias against the First Hersey and published Before the rediscovery of the Gnostic library. Pagels was far more generous and represented the rediscovered texts in good faith. Voegelin, like this interpretation by the genspect contributor, and like Lindsay interprets Gnosticism in bad faith

“While the transgender phenomenon has many facets...talk of gendered souls imprisoned in human bodies is classic Gnostic heresy, and needs to be recognised as a supernatural claim.” Fascinating piece by Daniel Howard James on gender ideology & ancient religious roots. Link 👇

@ShannonBDouglas @genspect Actually, it's a bad take on Elaine Pagels' work on the Gnostic gospels in the 70s. This was a feminist challenge to the patriarchy of mainstream Christianity, and covers female, non-binary and self-actualised conceptions of godliness. @ConceptualJames hadn't been born then.

Big fan of yours @genspect but this interpretation of Gnosticism is terrible. The Gnostics and the Hermits were very similar to Eastern gurus and sages who sought enlightenment or Samhadi. To the extent it ‘secret’ knowledge, that’s because enlightenment was the subject of a sacred quest and not available to anyone without some humility. This is a bad take on @ConceptualJames’ bad take.

@brenda11831 @genspect I don't have any beef with @jk_rowling - I'm merely pointing out that Harry Potter is in the mythopoeic tradition of messianic epics. For my generation it was Luke Skywalker, to the extent that thousands of British people record their religion as 'Jedi' on official documents.

Daniel Howard James traces how today’s “transgender child” is treated like a holy figure whose feelings outrank evidence, medicine and even parents. A brilliant piece on how superstition replaced science in gender care. Read it here: genspect.org/the-deificatio…

@thoughtsofquod @genspect Thanks for the comment. I meant that Jesus was considered divine from birth, because of his supernatural conception, rather than acquiring enlightenment through spiritual practice. I did not yet delve into the New Age, but that's a good idea!

@genspect It's interesting; I find some comparisons are forced & don't work (Jesus is equally divine as a grown man; however Christian martyrs themselves are viewed, those feeding them to lions are always villains). But the New Age "indigo child" fad, oddly not mentioned, seems spot on.

Part two of my commentary on the Bell Hotel asylum seeker case in Epping, an injunction just overturned on appeal, is out now. This case could have profound implications for any planning application in England or Wales which attracts public protest: open.substack.com/pub/danielhowa…

Coming up at Verdurin: Paper Tigers, a symposium on the imaginary of China. For the West, China is a cultural and political entity made up entirely of our projections. How can we think about it besides the materiality in which it steeps us? With David McGrogan, @DrLeeJones, and @daniel_h_james. Info and tickets ⬇️

Details of the closure of the Bell Hotel in Epping have been absent from the media. I have attempted to rectify that in my new series on the legal and town planning implications for England’s migrant hotels. Part one is here: open.substack.com/pub/danielhowa…
