Eurasian Whimbrel, Numenius phaeopus, ringed at Kartong Bird Observatory in 2017 recorded at Brownstown Head, County Waterford, R.O.Ireland. 29/4/2024. Our second record of a KBO ringed Eurasian Whimbrel in North West Europe. An excellent record.

Got my first taste of Southern Ocean birding on a pelagic out of Port Fairy, Victoria a couple of weeks back. The stars of the show were undoubtedly the Wandering Albatrosses

The supporting cast wasn’t bad either… 6 species of Albatross seen in total

A real standout for me in 2022 was getting to see the stunning Resplendent Quetzal on the slopes of Volcano Paquisis near Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. A supporting cast consisting of Horned Guan, Wine-throated Hummingbird and Fulvous Owl wasn’t bad either. Happy new year all!

Tikal, Guatemala - exceptional birding and nature along the trails surrounding the ruins and temples of the historic site. Highlights being Keel-billed Toucan, Collard Aracari, the localised and rare Orange-breasted Falcon and Spider Monkeys
