מספר תובנות על המצב שלנו בארה״ב. בשבוע האחרון קיימתי מרתון של מפגשים עם פוליטיקאים אמריקאים, אנשי ממשל, ארגונים יהודיים, וכמובן ראיונות מול תקשורת בינלאומית קשוחה. חיילינו בשטח פועלים היטב ועלינו להעניק להם חיפוי מדיני ותקשורתי, ולקחתי על עצמי להיות חלק מחיפוי זה, ואמשיך בכך בתקופה הקרובה. הנה מה שלמדתי בינתיים: 1. הציבור האמריקאי ברובו תומך בישראל ורואה בחמאס ארגון טרור ברברי. אלא מה? ישנם פעילים אנטי-ישראלים שעושים הרבה רעש ומצליחים להזיק לישראל. מדובר על חיבור בין איסלמיסטים קיצוניים לבין פרוגרסיבים רדיקליים ולטעמי מטורללים. אין מה לדבר איתם או לנסות לשכנע אותם. 2. היהודים בארה״ב מצויים תחת מתקפה אנטישמית משמעותית. במיוחד סטודנטים. זו חוויה מטלטלת ומעצבת עבורם. כולנו מבינים עכשיו שגורל היהודים בעולם וגורל מדינת היהודים תלויים זה בזה. מתקפת הטרור מקרבת יהודים רבים לישראל. היהודים כאן נלחמים למען ישראל, וגייסו מאות מיליוני דולרים למען סיוע לשיקום האזרחי. אסור לישראל להתעלם מהיד המושטת של אחינו בעולם. 3. מדינת ישראל יכולה וחייבת להמשיך במלחמה על מנת להשיג את המטרות שלנו. גם אם ישנם ריקושטים פוליטיים כאן, ישראל חייבת להמשיך ולא למצמץ. אנחנו מדינה ריבונית שצריכה להשיב את הביטחון לאזרחיה. אם נפעל בנחישות לא יעצרו אותנו. 4. פעולות ההסברה מועילות. לפעמים נדמה שזו רק טיפה בים. אבל כל שיתוף סרטון, כל ראיון, כל מפגש וכל פעולת הסברה -מועילים. מותר להגיד לצד השני: אתה טועה. אלו שקרים. להיות חזקים. עוד משהו: מחוץ לישראל פחות נחשפו לזוועות השבת השחורה. מה שכל אחד מאיתנו חי ונושם, קצת נשכח בעולם. צריך להזכיר. 5. הדבר שמייצר הכי הרבה שכנוע זה נושא בני הערובה. צריך להדגיש זאת, במיוחד את הילדים בתחילת כל שיחה. ללא הרף. 6. אנשים כאן מבינים שלישראל פשוט אין ברירה אלא להשלים את המלאכה. ארה״ב היתה עושה בדיוק אותו הדבר. 7. צריך להתעקש שלא להעניק לחמאס הפוגות הומניטריות שהם כל כך רוצים. הפוגה כזו תנוצל על ידי חמאס להתחמש מחדש, להתרענן, וגם לעשות מסע יח״צ כנגדנו. אסור לעצור. לא מגישים יד לאויב מוכה. להיפך, רק מגבירים את הלחץ. יש כאן בארה״ב לחץ מסוים להפוגות כאלה. אסור לוותר. 8. דימוי העוצמה של ישראל נפגע בצורה משמעותית. המוניטין שלנו כמובילה עולמית בתחום הביטחוני-מודיעיני נסדק. ייקח שנים לתקן, ונעשה זאת. אך יש לכך בינתיים משמעויות מדיניות, ביטחוניות וכלכליות לא מבוטלות. 9. חשוב ששרים ונבחרי ציבור ישראלים יקפידו בלשונם. מילים מטופשות שנאמרות בישראל מנוצלות על ידי אויבינו לפגוע בנו. גם כשאנחנו בישראל יודעים שמדובר בשר זוטר ושולי ושאולי הדברים לא נאמרו בכוונה, זה לא משנה. 10. העולם אינו סובב סביב ישראל. ישנם אינספור נושאים אחרים (בחירות מקומיות, ספורט ועוד) שבהדרגה מחליפים ויצמצמו את העיסוק התקשורתי במלחמה בעזה. זה לא בהכרח דבר רע. ברגע שבחמאס יבינו שהעולם מאבד בהם עניין זה רק יאיץ את הייאוש שלהם. אמשיך היום במפגשים בקונגרס ובסנאט במקביל להמשך הראיונות בתקשורת הבינלאומית, ואפעל כך בשבועות הקרובים. אוהב אתכם מאד. עם של אריות 🇮🇱 נפתלי בנט

I am pro-Palestinian. Some might be surprised by this due to my recent advocacy on @X for Israel, but you shouldn’t be. I am anti-terrorist, not anti-Palestinian. It is not inconsistent to be pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian. And my pro-Palestinian viewpoint is not a new one. My pro-Palestinian perspective began more than 30 years ago when I was introduced to the Palestinian community and their plight in the early 1990s. I have invested millions in helping promote Palestinian economic development and peaceful coexistence. We would do a lot more if we could be confident that the funds would be used productively. The crisis in Gaza is largely due to a failure of leadership. The Palestinians elected Hamas in 2006 after Israel withdrew and evicted 9,000 of its own citizens from their Gazan homes. Israel withdrew from Gaza for peace. It was a small scale test of a two-state solution. Rather than building the Singapore of the Middle East over the last 18 years, Hamas diverted funding to build tunnels, rockets and munitions to wage terror and war in an effort to eliminate Israel and kill Jews. Like the Israelis, the vast majority of Palestinians want peace. They want opportunities for employment so they can earn a living wage to support and educate their families so the next generation can build a better life. They want peace, beauty, happiness, health and prosperity as we all do. All of that would have been possible with Gazan leadership which focused on economic development rather than terrorism. Israel and (most of) the world wanted the Gazan experiment to succeed. Israel simply wanted peace. Israel built a fence and created checkpoints to protect its citizens from suicide bombers and other forms of terror. The Egyptians built a concrete wall at their border with Gaza for the same reasons. The need for a fence and checkpoints is made self-evident by the catastrophic impact on Israel when the fence was breached on Oct. 7th. Hamas is in the business of terrorism. Hamas makes money with grift, corruption, and funding from Israel’s enemies who support Hamas to achieve their own anti-Israel objectives. Hamas and those that support it don’t care about the Palestinians. The Palestinians are simply a tool to implement their anti-Israel and/or anti-Jew objectives. Like other businesses, Hamas has a corporate hierarchy where those at the top make thousands of times more than the ‘workers’ at the bottom. Hamas’ leaders have put aside hundreds of millions and even billions for themselves. Hamas uses their ‘culture’ of terrorism, cash, and other incentives to motivate young, brainwashed —often from youth—, radicalised militants to implement death, torture and destruction. Their ‘success’ at terrorism attracts more funding, amplifies Israel’s response, and the cycle continues. Hamas does not care about the Palestinian people. Hamas knew with certainty how Israel would respond to the torture, rape, beheading, and slaughter of Israeli women, children, seniors and infants on Oct. 7th. Hamas’ plan was to hide out in their tunnels and headquarters built under major hospitals, limit evacuations so that Palestinian citizens are exposed to the inevitable Israeli military response, and then rally the world against Israel in a globally coordinated response as innocent civilians die. Israel has no choice but to destroy Hamas. It cannot allow its survival, as Hamas’ existence remains an existential threat. If ISIS invaded our southern border, we would do the same. We would warn civilians to evacuate and then we would go in and destroy the terrorists. We wouldn’t cease fire until they were obliterated. The whole situation is an incredible tragedy. While I have always hoped for a viable and peaceful two-state solution, the Gaza experiment has been an abject failure. Future efforts for statehood for the Palestinians must learn from this catastrophe. As always, I welcome your input, critiques and rebuttal. What did I get wrong?

I'm sorry to hear about the abuse. Sounds tough. You know what's a lot worse, though? * 1,000+ civilians butchered by scums of the earth that you and the BBC refuse to call terrorists despite their commitment to Jihad and killing Jews in their charter. * Being a Jew in London or Paris or other parts of the world, exposed to hateful protests by terror sympathizers and fearing for their safety, among other things due to incredibly biased coverage from the BBC that incites violence. * Being a peace supporter who learns a meeting Joe Biden was to have with leaders in the Middle East including the head of the Palestinian Authority that was aimed at reducing violence in the region was canceled due to a complete and utter blood libel that the BBC and other media outlets put out there, claiming Israel intentionally bombed a hospital killing 500 Gazans, all based on the word of Hamas without a shred of evidence and far below the minimal standard of reporting journalism (Now we learned the hospital wasn't even directly bombed); Or an employee in the US/Israeli embassies that have been threatened across the world due to that same blood libel. So I am sorry for your hardship, but you and the BBC have a huge responsibility on your hands, which you time and again used to incite violence and spread misinformation, all while being unbelievably unprofessional and hypocritical while demanding two completely different burdens of proof for "Pro" and "Anti" Israeli stories. I hope that instead of automatically rejecting the criticism, you can take a deep look inside and think whether it has any merit and whether the problem isn't with your friends. #HamasisISIS #BBCBias #TheWestIsNext

The Hamas terrorist attack on the people of Israel is heartbreaking. I am devastated by the terrible loss of innocent lives in Israel and Gaza - especially children, for who the world should be a safe place. This attack against civilian human lives and human rights cannot be tolerated.

Wonderfully written. Things you’re omitting and I suspect it’s because it makes the two-sided-punchline a bit weaker: 1. Hamas is not some rogue minority organization. They were VOTED into power by the majority of Gaza population in order to represent their best interests. 2. Israel withdrew fully from Gaza years ago. This was a one sided, super controversial move by the Israeli government. Settlements and homes were taken apart. What did Hamas do? Started building firing rockets because.. 3. Hamas is activated and supported by Iran. It’s part of a bigger chess game. Representing it as Israel vs. Gaza is just wrong. The timing of this attack isn’t coincidental. It took place because peace initiatives are accelerating around them. Israel is, in fact, actively pushing for peace in the region. Surprise! 4. “Tiny boxes”? maybe. It’s a small country to begin with. But Gaza and Hamas has enough land and international funding to build 100% solar capabilities or water desalination factories. They chose to spend their money on tunnels and RPGs just like they choose to use their own population as human shields. Israel’s best interest is for the people of Gaza to have functioning infra, water and electricity of their own and so forth but Israel isn’t the one preventing them from all this. Hamas is. The IDF always have and always will view killing as a necessary evil. Hamas views killing as the main objective. Saying you’re pro-good-stuff is great and I generally agree with most of what you’ve written but this one is different. It’s not nuanced. What happened here on Saturday is on another level and pure evil. The Hamas will be eradicated for it. Is it a solution? Probably not. But it’s a good start after years of avoiding hard choices.
