@mpwarwick @plakaexeitotoui The popular narrative forgets POW re-engaged as you've correctly mentioned and also that Leach declared her operational to Tovey the day she sailed with Hood when she realistically wasn't

Ill never get enough of english bismarck cope Dont get me wrong i think the kgv class at 35k tons is the best one could hope for with the ton limit But they ll never come to terms with what might be the last b2b where bismarck walks away with murdering hood and pow running 😀
Matthew Warwick@mpwarwick

Bismarck was a pretty ‘meh’ design. Her biggest strength was being a modern fast battleship at a time when there were very few of them. She needed ~15% more displacement to come near other modern fast battleships in capabilities.

In this 1945 British newsreel, tanks are raced across a three-mile, all-terrain course at a proving ground in an undisclosed location. According to the narrator, the course was designed to 'strain the tanks to their utmost'. Film: IWM WPN 221

I`ll do it for £50 Million, over 8 years. All it wants is a bloody scaffold, about 100 tons of quicklime, lead, and slate. A hundred decent blokes and its done. Your numbers are what you get when you telephone some useless infrastructure multinational who probably dont even know what lime mortar is. I do have one condition, which is that everyone who works there gets sacked first.

🚨 NEW: MPs and peers must vote on two options to restore the Palace of Westminster 1: Fully move-out for 19–24 years (£11-15bn) 2: Phased works over 38–61 years, in which the Lords move out to a conference centre and MPs use their chamber for 2 years from 2041 (£19-39bn)

Hello mate I'm hoping you maybe able to assist I'm head of maintenance at a care home in Devon and I have a resident who turns 100 this year He's ex tankie and doesn't have his medal that he earned A colleague and I are busy sorting that and have applied for it. We took him to the local rememberance last year which was his first actual trip outside the home in years. Tpr Frank Goodison 14851797 28/9/44 to 9/1/48 War medal 39/45 Rather than just handing over his medal once it arrives I'm trying to find someone of seniority in his cap badge that could present it? He's a good bloke and we'd like to look after him

@WeHaveWaysPod POW scored her first hit on Bismarck three minutes after opening fire after firing three partial salvoes. It took Bismarck four minutes and five full salvoes to score her first hit on Hood. POW's gunnery wasn't as bad as has traditionally been made out

Outgunned and malfunctioning, Prince of Wales suddenly had to alter course so as not to become a casualty of the rapidly sinking Hood.

@TerryTibbs95 @WeHaveWaysPod I think that would have created a miss match. Hood with POW and KGV with Repulse was the best of a bad bunch of options. KGV and Hood would possibly have stood a better chance in the Denmark Strait but there was no guarantee Bismarck would have taken the Strait to break out.

@James1940 @WeHaveWaysPod There was a chap called Howard Spence who left Hood shortly before she sailed in May 1941. He arrived home on leave at the same time as a telegram from the Admiralty informing his parents he was missing presumed killed aboard Hood. A few days later the Admiralty sent an apology

What an AMAZING story this is: HOOD vs BISMARCK. An epic tragedy of massive - but weirdly beautiful - warships duelling to the death in the Atlantic. Our new series on the @WeHaveWaysPod

@keellelectrical @robert_lyman I would suggest anyone considering a Walt act do their homework into acts that have led to the award of the DSO then go and have a good, long hard look in the mirror
