@moseskagan @harryh Sterling essentially brought in Chevy, their biggest account. He also brought in Sunkist with an assist from Harry and Don. There are probably others. He has a bit of a late season professional revival.

~Total misunderstanding of what's going on (and understanding this is actually important, if you're going to be in business): Sterling and Cooper have relationships and gravitas, which get their firm, *Sterling Cooper*, in the room with clients for Draper to pitch. (Mad Men the single best depiction of small-to-medium size business I've ever seen on TV, incidentally.)
High Yield Harry@HighyieldHarry

Most realistic part of Mad Men is how these two old guys sit around doing nothing while taking the bulk of the economics.

Montréal, which has a strong reputation for snow removal, also uses a dual-vehicle system to hoover up snow and deposit it in large dump trucks that then shoot it into the St. Lawrence River. @bucka.dalil5/video/7584444500806733087?_r=1&_t=ZS-93aYCiYOYdx" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tiktok.com/@bucka.dalil5/…

Rehmet saying he would fight to repeal anti-union laws -- presumably a reference to Texas's "right to work" status -- and "reclassify" gig workers to ensure benefits actually is quite specific and detailed. Perhaps the better critique is that something on a website policy page is not the same as being a central part of his messaging. And of course, it's a legislative special election where highly motivated partisans exert outsize influence.

@danielmarans Under control? Have you lost your mind. Nick Shirley found a heck of a lot more than those bumbling state officials.

In response to fraud in Minneapolis that prosecutors had under control, Trump fueled hysteria about Somali-Americans and flooded the city with ICE agents, resulting in the killing of Renee Good. Now, because the Trump administration pushed the local DOJ lawyers to investigate Good's widow and cut out local authorities, six DOJ prosecutors resigned -- including the guy who oversaw the fraud investigation. Can't make this stuff up.

She also came out against the Council's adoption of "term sheet" bills that would make city-subsidized housing more expensive to build. The bills passed and former Mayor Adams vetoed them, but her stand did not go unnoticed. crainsnewyork.com/politics-polic… via @nick_garber

Cea Weaver's endorsement of the housing-related charter amendments -- to @CityAndStateNY as well (see below) -- played a role in their passage. It showed a commitment to putting outcomes over partisan politics at a time when some of Weaver's ideological allies on the Council were fighting the amendments tooth and nail. cityandstateny.com/politics/2025/…

To be clear, right and left may not be the right framing here. There are plenty of people nominally on the right or in the libertarian world who oppose deposing foreign governments on the merits, but MAGAism never claimed to care about other countries' sovereignty per se.

So identifying the contrast is useful, but it's not flattering for the MAGA/America First right.

Yes, this is a core difference between left-of-center anti-interventionism and right-wing America Firstism, which is OK with military imperialism that serves a narrow band of U.S. interests. Those of us in the former camp would say that even in the unlikely event that nothing here comes back to bite the United States in the near term -- troop deaths, further escalation, economic fallout -- deposing foreign leaders in illegal wars is wrong. It deprives other countries of their right to sovereignty, kills foreign civilians and disrupts their lives, and sets a precedent for lawlessness that makes us all less safe.
Gladden Pappin@gjpappin

Correct. The core issue for MAGA is correctly defining and implementing American interests, not broader abstract debates about intervention“ism” etc. Hemispheric interests have been neglected for decades, and here the US was able to resolve a key threat with direct action.

@KelseyTuoc @downwardMFA If this is true, which I doubt, then why have the publicized examples of such abuse — Kilmar, etc — all turned out to be unsympathetic violent criminals? Why won’t the Democratic Party’s eager propaganda arm publicize one sympathetic, persuasive example?

the government sending innocent people (many here legally) to be tortured and raped is one of the most unforgivable things done this year and I hope that 60 Minutes is able to air their full reporting on what happened
