@AnilMakam I give this same advice all the time. It’s such an important perspective, and more often than not, it’s the first time a student hears it.

I gave a student advice not to take a research gap year because... self fund gap year (vs paid as fellow) opportunity cost of 1 year physician wage & most importantly research training more generic & less applicable (vs after residency/fellowship when career more focused)
