I also wonder what trade-offs software makers have to make if they want to lower the number of mistaken interactions. e.g. Figma would probably have to remove lots of on-canvas controls, and make the remaining controls bigger, which might get in the way of "real" canvas elements

I wonder what percentage of interactions with professional software (Photoshop, After Effects, Logic Pro, etc.) are to correct interaction mistakes? e.g. in Figma probably a single digit percentage of all my interactions are interaction mistakes, and my corrections of them.

Feels weird that if I want fully rounded corners in Figma I have to type an arbitrary number into the corner radius field (I always use "100"). Like it's a hack.

It’s been a whole week since @zeroheight’s Converge in Brighton. I had the most wonderful time catching up with many of my favourite design system faces and talking about my passion (Moo Deng) on stage. Feel very lucky to get to take parts in events like this ❤️

@hobdaydesign A different way this is handled (sorry) is in tvOS or iPad with a mouse where you don’t have full control, rather the pointer jumps to predefined regions. Interesting tradeoff. I wonder would we accept a desktop OS that changed how we interact with a mouse this much? 🤔

To help illustrate that this is not a Figma problem, the same issue in Apple Music. This is a standard interaction pattern. I assume every software maker can change how this works? But they shouldn't have to.

Not a criticism of Figma, but of common interaction design: some interactions feel poor but are the accepted standard. I think the "resize" hover target on this panel is ~1px. I have good motor skills, and often overshoot. This is an action I do many times a day.

@nathanacurtis Yeah I think this makes sense. I wonder the balance between optimising locally for input, versus expectations based on other components the rest of the system

In a current component API project looking at input controls, we're finding that not only are disabled and read-only independent of "States" and conditional (latter on the former), but focus may be indepedent too! Let the 🔥hot takes commence!
