the consumer app I'm MOST bullish on right now: FocusTown
I have no idea who's behind the product, but it's beautifully crafted and their UGC is top tier
they have 12-15 creators, and their videos consistently blow up
WITHOUT any crazy hooks or skits
they recycle whatever hooks are already working on TikTok:
"studying bc I can't digest a man saying..."
"this is your sign to..."
"I love genz bc wdym..."
and then show the product.
the product is SO addictive and interesting that people naturally ask what app it is and retain until the end of the video
the best UGC doesn't require any crazy content innovation because the product naturally gets people interested
(all their videos / creators linked in replies)

my grandma watches my youtube videos every day
last week she told me “no one else is watching. you should make something more interesting”
she’s right. i’m a founder who’s sunk over a million dollars into this company posting daily vlogs that get a few hundred views
i made a video about why, and why ever founder should be making content

Allen's rejection challenge had a problem
People kept saying yes
@garrytan added him on LinkedIn
@sama signed his laptop by a golf cart
"no" became harder to get than "yes"
So he reframed it: yes and no are both wins
The real win condition? The "ask" itself.

here's my honest review of SF after living in the city for 3 months.
tl;dr - i loved it. yes it has problems like every other place, but damn I wanna come back as soon as possible.
ABSOLUTE GOD TIER:
▶︎ People - everyone is just worth talking to. absolutely incredible density of talent. never ever had this feeling anywhere in the world.
▶︎ Serendipity - you leave the house to stroll around, end up having 5 new friends and a new cofounder
▶︎ GGB - always there to remind you can just build things
▶︎ Waymo - who doesn’t love these silly robots among us
S TIER:
▶︎ Nature - reminds you the city isn’t just concrete and chaos
▶︎ SF X - feels like a high school group chat
▶︎ Sunsets - free therapy at 6:43 PM
▶︎ GGP - a true no-zombie zone in the city
A:
▶︎ Tech events - free food, great people, questionable startup advice
▶︎ This one sauna - makes Spec sweat a little
▶︎ Free event food - the only way to access healthy food apart from Whole Foods
B:
▶︎ Gyms - surprisingly good SF fitness
▶︎ Bikeability - loads of bike infrastructure
▶︎ Walkability - city isn't that big, walking works
C:
▶︎ Cafes - underwhelming. was expecting much more. reveille saves the day, but it's not enough.
▶︎ Teenage founders - raise $3M before learning to parallel park. it's fun if it works, some kids do deliver like crazy. also makes me sad i wasted my 20s
▶︎ Pre-product $5M seed - it's makes me question my bootstrapping approach
D:
▶︎ Running - gets boring after two times. there are not enough places to run.
▶︎ Muni - unreliable, slow, expensive.
▶︎ Dating - bad ratio, but also people are not really into dating at all? feels like nobody is doing it in the city.
F:
▶︎ Food - horrendous, unless you eat in whole foods every day. idk what's wrong with you people, how can you live like that
▶︎ Smell - eau de fresh piss in the morning.
▶︎ Zombies - literally a city with NPCs, but sometimes NPC attacks you randomly.
▶︎ Housing - pay $2500 a month to hear neighbor’s kombucha ferment
▶︎ Prices - city is unliveable without vc funding
▶︎ Chinatown - just don't go
▶︎ Tenderloin - just don't go even more
▶︎ Roommates over 35 - why
▶︎ NY trips to find a GF - SF exporting loneliness lmao
