Some w. Hudson Bay polar bears are ashore but most are still on the last remanent bits of ice. In the past, the bears would have been ashore with so little ice but I suspect they've shifted their behaviour to stay out longer: perhaps necessary if they're not in great condition.

Yesterday the CDC finally updated its data on the outbreak of diarrhea caused by the Cyclospora parasite, which has affected thousands of people. So far, cases have been confirmed in 31 states.

From the pages of The Economist, Putin addresses the leaders of democratic countries with a simple message:  It is wrong to put pressure on Russia, so you must change your approach and, as before, silently acquiesce to all the crimes of the Kremlin. In this article by a Putin-aligned oligarch, there isn’t even a hint that it is Russia that needs to change its approach - to stop spending half its budget on war, to release journalists, artists, scientists, and environmentalists from prison, to stop killing people and destroying residential buildings, hospitals, museums, and kindergartens in Ukraine.  And most importantly, to stop this bloody war that has already caused more than a million Russian casualties alone. And if that is the case, then it means the approach of democratic countries is correct. We must keep up the pressure. The cost of war for Putin must become higher than the cost of peace. And then peace will have a chance.

@1goodtern More likely a modeling glitch. The only reliable information in a weather model for 2 weeks from now is the date. The model in this case is likely GFS, from the 🇺🇸 National Centers for Environmental Prediction. (Ventusky does not do the modeling; it just provides visualizations.)

This isn't a forecast... it's a vague projection, but the very fact that Ventusky is projecting temperatures just a fraction below 50°C in France in a fortnight's time should have people's alarm bells exploding.

Here are some of the details on what Canada had to give up to open the Gordie Howe Bridge, as per a Canadian government source. For the first 15 years, Canada gets 50% of toll profits and the other 50% goes into a regional "economic development fund." What that fund does and who runs, is not clear Under the previous agreement, Canada was to receive 100% of toll profit until they were made whole on the $6.4B they spent to build the bridge, which Michigan/the US contributed $0. The agreement also says it could be 50+ years before Canada was whole, that timeline is now longer. The Americans will have to agree if Canada wants to increase the bridge tolls by more than 10%, or lower them below compared regional averages. That clause helps out the owners of the Ambassador Bridge, the Maroun family, who have donated to the Trump administration and previously to US ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, to try and stop the new bridge from opening #cdnpoli
