@VicVijayakumar I think at least some of it stems from an attempt to rationalize the increasingly untenable stresses we put ourselves through.
Surely it can't be that we are restructuring our society in a way that doesn't work for 99% of people.

@IwriteOK I've been good with computers since I was a preteen. For the past 35 years authority figures have blown smoke up my ass bc I could install a printer or indent a word doc. Once I started coding for a living that was it; I'm a genius? No just poisoned w/ unearned self-confidence.

different people are smart and skilled in different areas and everybody alive sucks at a whole bunch of things. engineers are the easiest people on earth to manipulate into blowing themselves up for a cause because they think skill at soldering means they can't be wrong.

all of this is downstream from treating "intelligent" and "smart" as meaningful absolute descriptors of a person. no one is smart. take your heart surgeon and ask him to replace the battery in an iphone. take your history professor and ask if he can fix a busted transmission

@rabcyr_alt 3. Compare your CC interest rate versus a loan. You can go get your own loan, and as far as the dealership is concerned, it's like you're paying cash. There's nothing about a dealership that means the car won't immediately breakdown over a private sale. Pay a mechanic to check 1/

advice for buying an old used car when you don’t have the cash. should i:
1. buy from a lot, take their loan, or
2. use credit card for expenses, pull cash from bank to buy from an individual

Network engineers: I get how you _can_ do it, but how do you _accidentally_ expose a "this might kill somebody" medical device to be routable on the public Internet? This is some intelligent design stuff I don't think the universe materializes this as how IPv4 works.
