@Ultra_Marginal I’m not against software. I use procreate. Musicians use pro-tools. I don’t know the extent of what you do as an engineer but it sounds like you are designing and creating something purposeful and meaningful and that sounds way more like art to me than an ai image.

@CaseyWColler I'd love to completely agree with you. I'm most perspectives, I do. I'm an engineer, I've been using software as a tool for actual decades. My art is designing a thing that does a thing reliably, safely, efficiently, and cost effectively.

One thing from the comments in my “ai isn’t art” post that I’d like to address is the idea that I’m “gatekeeping” That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I hope any person who has a desire to create art follows that drive and finds joy in the process. 1/?

@TheGreatErenan I’m not sure what you mean by “professional art world” but most professional artists I know would STRONGLY disagree. If you mean the big businesses that salivate over the idea of using ai to create images rather than hire a legitimate artist, I don’t give that any credence.

@TheGreatErenan I think I defined my position pretty clearly, Luke. You don’t have to believe it, but nothing I’ve said is wrong. Everything in the “last 100 years of art history” fits the definition of art, whereas ai images do not. 🤷‍♂️

ok but you're just wrong about it it is art and it's very very hard to justify saying that it isn't art given all of the things that happened in the art world in the 20th century I don't know how to look at the last 100 years of art history and say "yes, that stuff is art but AI is not art"

I’m sorry. I truly am. I’m not making the rules. I’m just stating the truth. I’m not gatekeeping the art world. I want everyone to make art. Do what makes you happy. But ai images are not art. And feeding your ideas into a machine does not make you an artist. 8/X

When you feed your ideas into a machine it is spitting out something using only that which already exists. Nothing new. There is no heart or soul. No sparks of enlightenment. No true CREATION. Just regurgitation. You used a machine to create an image. That image is not ART. 7/?

There is no AI art. We need to stop using that term. “AI generated imagery”, or something like that can work if you don’t want to call it slop. But it isn’t art. Semantic, sure. But it’s an important distinction.

@DarkJaysonVR I’ve experienced plenty. More than enough to know it’s not the same. You should trust me on this This is not a “new guard/old guard” thing. I welcome new tools for creating art. I welcome new artists. I love seeing young people create art. But AI imagery isn’t art. It’s just not

@CaseyWColler There is no way you did not experience any of that growing up and learning to do what you do, you know its the same. Your learning something new and the old guard looks at what you made with destain telling you your not a real artist, stop doodling and make some real art.
