This👇is completely untrue. The Harper government signed free trade agreements with 39 countries, partly through the Canada-Europe Trade Agreement, and the Trans Pacific Partnership, covering almost all European & Asian economies. Canada did so *without* a carbon tax. Carbon taxes were never an issue in the negotiations. Carbon taxes are *not* an issue in the stalled Canada-UK free trade negotiations. None of the fastest growing emerging economies have carbon taxes (eg India, Korea, China.) None of the other major global producers of energy have a carbon tax (eg Saudi, Russia, USA, Gulf States.) And several European governments are starting to reverse course on green policies that have led to de-industrialization. Mark Carney is a smart guy. So who does he think he’s fooling by arguing that diversifying export markets requires imposing hugely uncompetitive carbon taxes on trade exposed sectors of our economy?

On this day in 1987, the last episode of the original Fraggle Rock aired. The show debuted in 1983 as a co-production between the CBC and the British ITV. It aired 96 episodes and was filmed in Toronto. The show was ahead of its time for its tackling of serious issues such as spirituality, the environment and social conflict. One of the show's writers was Canadian avant-garde poet bpNichol. Among the cast was Irish-Canadian Gerry Parkes, who played the human inventor Doc on the show. He was always joined by his dog Sprocket. In 1983, the show won an International Emmy for Best Children's Television Series. In 1986, it won a Gemini for Best Children's Series. In 1987, it won the Gemini for Best Direction in a Variety or Performing Arts Program or Series and earned another four nominations. A reboot of Fraggle Rock debuted on Apple TV+ on Jan. 21, 2022.
