@13sarahmurphy @ZoeJardiniere But the LOGIC of why it happens is baffling no? Why the UK? If so desperate for safety, why not any of the other safe countries they cross through?

@ZoeJardiniere The ‘why are they coming from France? It’s a safe country’ argument has to be one of *the most* dishonest/moronic. We don’t get to duck our responsibilities because we lie further west. Just like countries closer to war zones shouldn’t have to take in more than anyone else. Ffs.

Yes, France is a safe country (unlike Rwanda) But no, France does not have to take responsibility for the refugees who wish to come to the UK and are forced to travel through France to reach us. That's a toddler's argument. "You touched it last" but with real human lives🙄

@tonypdickinson @BarristerSecret Threat is being caught is often cited as being one of the most important pillars of dissuasion to crime. Correct about extreme punishments but even minor punishments with the realistic prospect of being caught is a good deterrent.

What the evidence actually shows is that the biggest deterrent is the threat of being caught and the swiftness of punishment. And Suella has supported the defunding of the criminal justice system so that most offenders aren’t caught and those who are wait 5 years for a trial.
Suella Braverman@SuellaBraverman

Prison works. It is a deterrent, it takes criminals off our streets and is justice for their victims. This bill will severely undermine confidence in our criminal justice system. The solution to this problem is to build more prisons, not let criminals off the hook. 3/3

@Prxncipano @WesDeucalion An admission isn't evidence, anyone can check themselves into A&E, and the 'corroborating testimony' is from the boys brother, who isn't an independent witness.

A teacher has actually assaulted a 10 year old child, requiring them to be sent to A&E, lied on the child’s name until other children and teachers spoke up AND is still on site. We need the name of this child abuser and those protecting them too
victoriazubuike@Victoriazubuike

I can’t believe I’m even writing these words, my 10 year old nephew was punched multiple times by his teacher Tracey at Christ The King School in Islington. The 10 year old had to go to A&E immediately after reporting severe pains across his chest and back areas.

Look at her mannerisms, the cold disregard and lack of concern, the inability to empathise with the plight of a black child. These are the people allegedly in charge of safeguarding our children. God.

If this policy had been in place 4 months ago, I would never have been able to join my wife in the UK. 😬 £38,700 is an outrageously out-of-touch amount. My spouse visa application process included 4 months of not being able to visit my wife, cost me around £5,000, and is valid for 2.5 years. After the 2.5 years, I will have to apply again for the next 2.5 years. After which, I'll have to apply again to be able to live in the UK indefinetely. In total, moving to the UK will have probably cost me £15,000. 😅

@vernalscott The public say taser is a high risk, very dangerous weapon. The police say taser is a lower risk option compared to a baton, firearms or trying to disarm or often even arrest someone using only their hands. The police need to be better at presenting their case.

Tasered girl, aged 10: PC Broadhead’s use 'was necessary, reasonable and proportionate' and he should be permitted to get on with his life and job. The case is a sad reminder that 'children' can present a genuine danger to themselves and others. msn.com/en-gb/news/wor…

@gmhales The lack of faith many of us have in the systems of police accountability is due to the long history of the police acting with impunity, with little fear of redress. Those (within policing) who are now objecting to increased scrutiny are imho, a far far bigger concern.

What's the solution when people flat out reject the findings of a process involving the IOPC and CPS, and where 2 out of 3 misconduct panel members were independent of policing, one being a lawyer?

@fatwhitebloke @andygeorgeni @MetBPA Pete, I'm not condoning the horrible comments, of which thankfully there are few. However i've noticed a trend of older generation users of social media using a picture with 27 comments, of which some are horrible, as evidence of a 'wider picture'. 1/2

@andygeorgeni @MetBPA Some of the comments are horrible. But with a post which has garnered 27 comments, maybe less than 5% ranging from bigoted/not nice, in what way is that indicative of an 'environment of hatred'?

A new idea is being rolled out across the country by many police forces, it’s called ‘Street Watch.’ It’s where a group of people will walk the streets, either with or without a police officer, and look out for issues to deter antisocial behaviour and improve community relations. A police spokesperson said “Street Watch is a community led scheme which allows local people, like you, to help keep their community safe, get some exercise, meet new people, and improve community engagements.” Those taking part, have no police powers and are not paid, yet go through the same recruiting vetting process as a police officer would. Street Watch sounds like public being the upaid police force.

The demonising of @policeconduct for following the law and procedures is a very strange way to promote More Trust and Higher Standards in @metpoliceuk! UK policing is different from many countries around the world and there should be some pride in our model of policing by consent
