Run blocking grades are tricky to use and it’s one place the role/context analysis needs to be ratcheted up (other position grades require less context imo). Any TE with a high percentage of inline blocking snaps will get smoked in run blocking grade
Brian@TheOneyedBandit

@StevePalazzolo_ I saw you talking about reaches on day 2 blocking TEs. I'm curious if you have any data on whether the NFL is even good generally at identifying good blocking TEs. Marlin Klein, for example, never had a PFF run blocking grade above 60 in his career

@StevePalazzolo_ Have noticed this over past 5 yrs. True in-line Y TEs have lower run block grades than guys who make mostly blocks in space so what’s more accurate than solely looking at the grade seems to be ranking by number of in-line run blocking snaps first and then ranking by grade 2nd.

Incredibly misleading stat. Hurts will naturally have a great QB Rating on his MOF throws because he only attempts them when it is a perfectly clean look. The amount of times he refuses to throw with anticipation or test tight zone windows only to roll out of a clean pocket instead is infuriating on his tape.
Eagle Times@_EagleTimes

Jalen Hurts has a 123.7 passer rating throwing over the middle since 2022. 2nd in the NFL. The “he can’t throw over the middle” crowd is gonna hate this one 👀

The #Cowboys were a playoff team in 2022 and selected Mazi Smith and Luke Schoonmaker during the 2023 draft. Smith: 26th (49th on consensus) Schoonmaker: 56th (100th on consensus) Those two picks were a big reason why the Cowboys dropped off so quickly in 2024 and 2025.
Peter Schrager@PSchrags

One big talking point from this Draft is the teams that took their guys and trusted "their" boards vs "consensus". Bears, Rams, Jags, and most notably -- 49ers -- had the largest Deltas between their picks and where the Consensus Big Boards listed. All playoff teams in '25. 🤷🏼‍♂️

We talked about this on the show today a bit. The perfect parallel is when GB drafted Jordan Love. They could have had Tee Higgins. That year, they lost by 5 in the NFCCG when Davante Adams had 15 targets and the next GB WR had 6. Higgins had ~900 yards as a rookie. Would he have been the difference? Not sure, but you can't definitively say no. That's basically the debate each team had. Does this WR get us another ring while our old QB is still going vs will the QB secure the next decade after transition? I think arguing either side is reasonable.
Dan Orlovsky@danorlovsky7

The idea that the Rams should have punted on a future QB they love in the name of a “win-now” WR is shortsighted and foolish. No rookie can be expected to swing his team’s championship probability that much.

We've lost the plot if draft analysts are trying to make the argument that we should not do draft analysis

"Wow, the Draft gets more views than any other sport's championship game... look at all these people who care about it! that's amazing" Also "Nobody is allowed to talk about it or what the implications of it are". It'd be like going into a Super Bowl Preview show and complaining that the analysts should shut up because they don't know the final score yet.

@ikenyonFB The 49ers just slammed the consensus board and called it children making a list. Teams that are good last year and beyond went against consensus this year. Maybe these people making their boards just suck and that’s why they aren’t NFL GMs

People can diss the consensus board all they want, and teams *should* operate off their own rankings. BUT… 1. If youre taking the 240th guy on the consensus board at 100. You should trade down and take him. It’s just bad resource management. 2. If your board consistently has guys ranked 100 slots off consensus, maybe your board sucks.
