@ALTIC_DEV I think it's a really useful view maybe for debugging purposes but I wouldn't want it on by default. Especially when I ramble for minutes on end. A really long monologue could get cluttered.

I've dictated almost everything for 6 months with Wispr Flow. 44,414 words, 161 wpm, top 0.1% of users. Last week I tried FluidVoice. Open source, runs local on my Mac, corrects as I speak with no API key, and handles slang better than I expected. Cancelled my paid plan. @CryptoSteven88 @sdhilip It does, or picks up stuff in the background, BUT as soon as you actually start talking again it self corrects and deletes the hallucinated words

Now that we’re generating nearly all our code, language enhancements that are merely syntactic sugar make little sense. If the new feature doesn’t enable something that was previously impossible, then it’s probably not worth adding at all.

It should be obvious to anyone that reads the list below that many of these companies will not survive as companies in a world of AI and Agents. These are services. Some more useful than others. But none of them control any capability or rails that couldn’t be negotiated/built (from open source or otherwise) by an agent for much cheaper. The alternatives will come with no capex, no OpEx, no rent seeking etc etc. The cost advantages of these things being rebuilt as primitives and repriced so it’s principally available to other agents and AI is pretty obvious.

@svpino Thinking, decisions, and good taste are the scarce resources. Real software engineers will always be needed to fine tune or fix bad code. But you have to make something people actually want first.

Software development has never been about writing code. This was obvious to many before, but now AI has made it crystal clear to everyone. Building software is 99% thinking, 1% writing code, and 1% fighting off-by-1 errors.

@chamath Unserious because you're not invested in what they build. If a dev makes a prototype in a week, and replit makes it in an hour - and they're both wrong - everyone still favors the dev's. Now I can "crap" out 10 versions of the wrong app to find the right one faster than ever.

Here are two very important charts about the current AI boom. Chart 1: Distribution Matters Open AI is still the clear leader but, interestingly, they are loosing percentage share as the market grows. This is normal for a category leader but it’s curious who they are losing share to. It’s not really to other startups but incumbents with existing, massive distribution. This means that Google has a huge runway ahead of itself as their models and services become better. It also means that when/if Meta gets their act together, they will be able to gain share quickly. Lastly, it likely means that xAI will need to license Grok aggressively OR acquire existing distribution for their models - Snapchat, Pinterest etc. Chart 2: Coding Agents are Slopware App-crappers It should be concerning that this category is shrinking. I think the reason why is obvious but we aren’t allowed to talk about it. The reason is vibe coding is a joke. It is deeply unserious and these tools aren’t delivering when they encounter real world complexity (building quick demos isn’t complex) in any meaningful enterprise. Hence people try, pay, churn. This trend is not good.

This is a game changer for me. I'm awful and coming up with my own designs for apps.

how do ppl feel about how cursor forked open source software, made it closed source, and charged for it? yes they added a few great features but 99% of the code in cursor was not written by them, yet my money goes to only them and not the vs code team, is that right?

@ThePrimeagen Love everything you do. I think you'll be able to make great content for years. But I think there's eventually going to be an out-of-touch factor if aren't boots on the ground in the tech industry

Those cheering on higher interest rates because they think it somehow hurts VCs are particularly clueless. There is little to no leverage in the VC model. By contrasts, real estate development and home prices are hugely tied to loans.

If you want to understand how the economy and credit markets are really doing right now, talk to people in real estate, especially commercial real estate.
