The feeding frenzy of negativity here on Twitter is of no interest to me, hence why I have stopped posting. Switching to Bluesky to give a go. Here is the link where I will post links to new videos, island audio insights. bsky.app/profile/dave-r… Dave

Being railroaded by @USAA_help They sent me to their repair shop w inflated prices, made car undrivable, 3 low-ball valuations, cancel the rental car, stopped communicating 18 days ago except messages pressuring me to sign my title over for a total loss and accept ½ my car value

Holy sh*t. This new Kamala Harris ad, which will air on Fox ahead of the debate, will mess with Donald Trump as it uses the words of Trump’s own cabinet & inner circle to show how he is unfit & unable to serve. This is so good. Watch & share it below.

@dave_rat Just out of curiosity, what would you consider to be an acceptable signal to noise ratio (SNR)? Phrased differently, if a cable carrying an analogue signal has noise, what is the max volume that noise can be before it degrades audio quality?

Did you know that a simple speaker completely transformed modern music festivals? WIRED spoke with sound engineer @dave_rat, who has provided audio for #Coachella since 2001, who breaks down exactly how these speakers work:

@qole @WIRED Hmmm, line arrays have been around since the '60s and before but it was this invention patents.google.com/patent/US51631… In 1989 and the release of Vdosc in the mid to late '90s that revolutionized line arrays for live sound. Prior to that only the low/mid frequencies could line array

Which sounds more like a real life drum set? A pair ADS L1090-2 home Hi-Fi tower speakers with a 40-27K +/-3db response? or Four 4" speakers mounted in PVC pipe with no tuning, no EQ, no processing? youtu.be/tn69y1f74yc

Take a listen and see if the Stormtrooper speaker sound more like a real instrument than these well known and obscure speakers. youtube.com/watch?v=DetAlP…

Here is a video on the subwoofer design I designed for Bassnectar NYE 2015. It is hard to get sound 40 dB louder at 300 feet than it is in the center of a ring of subs! Here are the nuts and bolts to designing a precision 360 degree subwoofer array youtu.be/SKjaGkZ8hSQ

Subs on a separate send is better! Because of of the flaws in how mics pick up sound. High pass filters are like strainers removing the big pieces but they have no way to tell the difference between rumble, mechanical noise, useful audio and wind youtube.com/watch?v=hpFK1X…

We focus on sound sources & light reflections Light illuminates physical objects yet with sound our focus tends to be on the source itself. There is a vast difference between how our bodies utilize sound energy vs light energy as we navigate life. youtu.be/iXEhQAitQCk
